DICE throws with bans for people that use color tweak mod

If you think Battlefield 3 can't get any more pretty you should check out this video, some BF3 guys made a mod that allows you to tweak the colors and lighting on any expansion map. Cool you can think but don't even try to install it on your Battlefield game.

According to PC Gamer, Gustav Halling Battlefield 3 gameplay designer tweeted:

Too colorful. Also, I wouldn't use those hacks if you don’t want a permanent ban on your account. FYI warning.

Some people on Reddit claim they already got banned from using it.

I got banned for it. I work for a Ranked Server Provider and have to shell out $60 on a new key. Stay away. You MIGHT be able to use it in unranked. MIGHT. Not worth it IMO.

But... Why? The mod does not affect any thing.

Or maybe only that DICE thought the color are easier to see the enemies. Still, ban permanently?! This looks way too much, if was a ban like 5 days and telling an warning.

I was wondering, just imagine in TF2

I think maybe they ban permanently so people if they want to play Battlefield 3 again they have to pay for it.

    Yea, too.

It is a cool mod, but it sort of makes BF3 looks "less serious". DICE's art style is very nice by default. Even if DICE could tell if you were using a color mod or a hack, is still would make players easier to see

This is pretty awful. There is nothing wrong with making a game better to those who want it 'better' in their own stand point. (In Laymans terms, there is nothing wrong with modding.)

Except there is something wrong if you mod it in a way that directly impacts the game experience of other players, which is exactly what the same method this mod uses to inject itself can be used for. This mod can easily be made into a variety of hacks, and DICE has no way of figuring out whether a player uses a hack or the color mod.

I think that you forgot to mention that the same tool that allows this graphic tweaks also allows for weapon damage tweaking and an infinite kind of other hacks, or at least thats what they say about it

I think is not bad, happen here on the banana too, someone do some anims or some great model and you dont want your model to be re-distributed or modified, i think dice do not want his [Years] of work to be edited, modified, but well, if you dont send a note saying DICE will ban the member who mod the game, thats different.

Mods are done for free and having a multiple camo paint job derivations sit in the same place as and bury all recognition of their original within 12 hours is a bit different IMHO. Modders just ask for a little bit of recognition while developers/publishers should be way above seeing their work modified, because we have to buy their original either way.
