DICE adds command to BF3 that disables color grading

Remember all the buzz about the color tweak mod for Battlefield 3? An EA DICE staff member on the MordorHQ forums (discovered by PCGamesN) said there will come a command in the next update that lets you disabling the color grading entirely in the game, just like the mod did.

There will be a console command for disabling the color grading entirely in the game included with the next PC game client update. We believe that turning it off gives no major competitive advantage/disadvantage. IRNV scope and a few others which turn the image into greyscale or greenscale don't work properly without color grading and will look real ugly. There will be no in-game UI for turning it on/off. We are unlikely to handle support questions and bug reports regarding stuff that happens when color grading is disabled. As for server settings: we are not currently planning to implement any new ones.

    Hypocrites.

Sorry to say, but no, no they aren't.

What DICE did was ban for modified game files. They didn't ban because you shouldn't be allowed to modify color, but because they had no way to check whether a player was using the color tweak or an actual hack giving them an unfair advantage. Now, since DICE weren't able to allowed players to use the color tweak, they were nice enough to give us a way to change it anyway.

Basically, they didn't only protect us from possible hackers, they also gave us a replacement for what they couldn't allow us to use.

I recall Gustav Halling being against it, remarking that the absence of colour grading was "too colourful".

If that's the case they are only asking to be legitimately hacked sooner or later :/

Long story short fuck DICE and fuck EA if they want a war then so be it.

My guess is that they did this when the Punkbuster staff said they weren't going to ban people for this.

Well, fuck it, I'll still be using my settings, better than what Dice has anyway.

My question is, what is happening to everyone that got banned for using the mod?

They probably need to buy a new game. Ban is ban, I doubt that it specifies the reason good enough to let DICE recognize the color correction mod bans, it probably just says: "Reason: Modified game files.".

They'll probably stay banned. I don't think they will unban them.
