Suggestion: Link stamps to EF sugestion.

When a stamp gets X "helpful" or "interesting" stamps it gets flagged as "potentially exemplary". Or if after x stamps 80% are "positive" it gets flagged for a mod to look at

This would go alongside our other detection methods in the suspicious/exemplary post log.

Obviously you could get stamp abuse but if we keep the exact formula secret and make sure a mod has to manually approve them it should minimise this.

I thought about this before but the abuse issue prevented me from suggesting it, but yeah, it should help the mods and give some more utility to stamps.

    Exactly my thoughts :)

I was thinking about something similar to what other sites do where they use "reputation" meter for each member. On GB, this "rep" could be related to "helpful" stamps and EF status of each member. The more helpful you are, the more positive rep you get.

And Jonny, the key here to prevent abuse is what you mentioned in the end of your idea

make sure a mod has to manually approve them

This is really important to have a mod/admin manually approve the EF and not rely on mathematical formula/algorithm to automatically convert "x" number of stamps into EF. There could be 2 sorts of abuse:

    • The intentional abuse that you mentioned in your idea where the member/troll will gather all his friends to go on a stamping spree, enabling him to get the EF.
    • The unintentional misuse where a post is really helpful and gets lots of "helpful" stamps, but is not worthy of an EF status. An example could be where a member is asking for certain instructions; another member replies with a 1 line directing him to a website related to his question. The post gets 5-6 helpful stamps but, obviously is not EF material.

In conclusion, I like the idea and hope it gets implemented. And as Unreal said, this should give some meaning and weight to the stamps after all, but mod/admin manual approval remains highly needed and critical if this idea is to be implemented and be abuse-free.

    Thanks
