Converting skins for sg552 to famas and vice versa

By GothAmKing 2 days ago

Okay folks, I want to ask that can a skin for one assault rifle be forced to swap with another assault rifle by tweaking the QC file ??? Let me clear myself through an example- Suppose I have skin "A" for sg552(say) and I want this skin to swap out with famas instead of swapping with sg552. Long story short, I want skin "A", which was meant for sg552, to replace famas.

Thanx in advance. :)

Not with just the QC file, you're probably missing some animations, some bones may have different names and what animations there are may have a different framecount.

So basically, you're going to have to get dirty.

I see. Then I suppose I have to do away with the existing ones. Anywayz thanx for the prompt reply.

Assuming I am reading the OP correctly and they are wanting to convert an already existing skin to another slot, they really only need to edit the .qc file in most cases. The .qc file houses all of the necessary information for the compiler to read in order for the animations to be compiled, and all that needs to be done is changing what slot the skin is supposed to compile to, adjusting the frames per second to match up for online play (or offline play if they prefer), and re-arranging the animation order to match that of the default .qc file in order to make sure the animations aren't bugged. It's very rare for a skin to be decompiled and have missing animations, let alone animations with bones that are automatically renamed. The worst I've seen is broken animations upon recompile, but that only seems to happen with skins that are compiled with the Orange Box setup.

Sounds about right actually, it's probably best to start with that, see if it works.

Also, if you're lucky, you can get away with just renaming files.

Okay, so I think I'll have to match the animation frame rates first, right ?

If you want it to work online, yes; but they will work just fine offline without having to edit any of the actual animations. Ganryu's post pretty much explains everything.

Okay, so if I change this line $modelname "v_sg552.mdl" then it "might" work without having to tweak the framerates, right ?

Yes and no, in a sense. Yes, by changing the "$modelname" line to say "v_\rif_famas.mdl", you won't really need to change anything for offline play. No, if you plan on using the converted skin for online play, you HAVE to tweak the frame rate, as well as the animation order.

Okay, let me try out offline play first then if I get hold of all the concepts of framerates and their orders and all then I will start tweaking out for online play too. But thanks a lot guyz, you people are doing an amazing job.
