I don't think so because people still love to handle the whole Co-Op feel on couch. And Really a PC keyboard cannot do that... nor can steam at all. (But I think they will once they do, if that is, switch over) Also because there are some game that Steam doesn't have that everyone loves... And yes for you Xbox360 Fans out there, Im talking about Halo! (PS3... I think you have Football games and Uncharted or something like that.)

But again I think so mainly because Steam has offered thing Sony nor Microsoft ever would. Example? Steam Mega Sales... seriously I got skyrim DIRT CHEAP than going to gamestop and getting it for bloody £37.05 (Basically $59.99 in America) Also because the online coumminty is rather large in size considering its main markets of TF2, L4D, Garrys Mod, etc.

We've got uncharted, heavy rain, infamous, and older ps1/2 games that were an exclusive, and they are good

    I'll never buy ripe!

lol wow people are getting desperate

last time I check steam's big picture is still PC, just with a controller on the TV, which could ALREADY be done before, its not a dedicated game box

Dont belive game consoles will ever go away! in fact i think they will become more and more popular as more they get upgraded over time.

eks: (ps1-ps2-ps3-nes-snes-n64-Wii) more and more plays on new game consoles like wii,xbox360,ps3 than what we did 10 years back on ps1 and 2

I don't think so, while the new interface is really great, a lot of games don't have controller support nor a splitscreen mode.

well as we know Steam has also heavily moved into the hardware business so I'd consider it; great potential in early stage

just because steam is on a tv doesnt mean its good to play on, you will need pc hardware, and you will always have to buy it yourself, while console is still standard build and ps3 has great exclusives

I'm not gunna say this will be the new Xbox360 or PS3, it simply won't be bigger. And we will have to cope with that, mainly for steam not having the greatest knowlage outside the PC gaming community. It's main purpouse is to take you out of the gamer den, and into the living room or elsewere for the same experience.

Well neither of these options, for the moment at least. BPM is not here to replace consoles, yet. It's just a beta of a controller friendly Steam user interface. Even though you can set up a Windows HTPC that boots into Steam in BPM automatically, it's not what most people will do and most people won't regard it as a true console replacement. What most people are missing for a true console replacement is a plug in and 'just' work experience and until the time is ripe and Valve coughs up a 'Steambox', possibly running on their own modified Linux distro and Steam in BPM, when all of that is finalized, only then I think we can truly speak of competition with consoles. It certainly is a step towards that direction, but they're not there yet and we'll see what they'll bring when they have it.
