No offence but it wouldn't be a deticated server if you are running it in game, clicking the Create Server button isn't a deticated server, (I can't remember what the other types are)

end rant

by creating in game the server is a listener server, not dedicated. in order to run a dedcated server, you need to install dedicated server on a server running 24/7 or something 0.o"

What you want to do is for starters, forward all ports from 27000 through to 27030, both UDP and TCP.

Then open up SourceForts, click create server and choose whatever options you like. When the map loads open the console and type sv_lan 0 and sv_region 5 (5 for is Australia, it's a different number for a different area.).

Now punch in changelevel sf_skywalk or whatever, and your server should be in the list and everything like that. This is what I have done, and it works for me. I'm sure there are some uber nerds who will say some of the stuff I have said is untrue or pointless, but meh, it works!

Small correction: this is only necessary if you have a router with NAT running that needs to be configured. Also, you really only need to forward inbound TCP and UDP on port 27015 (if all you want to host is a SourceForts server).

True, and I have a router, so...

And that's just because that's the default port. But what I said covers pretty much all 30 commonly used quake1 fork engines ports.
