disclosed the secret of pre-built forts
So, I decided to disclose the secret of pre-built forts (maybe some of you seen it on the cubewallers server that it's possible and were wondering how I did it) ;-)
I've written a Tutorial, I hope it's comprehensible enough :-/.
If not I've written it in german too

The :hover style on your text bodies are really irritating.
That is all.

So you place all the blocks manually into the map using notepad? Short of doing it yourself in hammer and saving a .map file and importing it, is there a way to build then export?

You can use an editor with regex to filter the vmf, it's very quick, built the fort(s) in hammer, load it with notepad++ oder edit+2, run regex, save it and it's done.

You could use gmod for it, there is a tool in that to export to Hammer, not sure how well it works though, and you need to put the SF blocks in gmod then change textures etc around in hammer.

In theory you could use the stripper_dump cmd, but it'll crash :-(

I have tried various ways of building forts n GMOD and whatever anyone says, the physics gun (blue tentacle) is THE MOST ANNOYING THING EVAR.
The methods of freezing are physics enabled so the blocks wobble, lag and bug alll over the place when you get a few in one place, touching. The other nethod of freezing, blue phys gun and right click is irritating, it is undone merely by grabbing the block. I would stick to SF.
The export to hammer function works extremely well. I have a mate who maps for another mod and he places ALL his props in G-mod then exports to hammer.

quoted for truth. Its much easier using the gravity gun and sf's freeze.

I know it's part of the game to build the forts ingame and I agree it's the best way to build, but if you have a big server with 70% noobs and 20% lazy advanced players it's better to have at least a kind of pre-built foundation wall.
