Exclamation Mapper based block skins

So, this idea comes from the thought back to cyberwarfare. I remember having the custom map skins and model skins. Well one thing I'd like to do with one of my maps (without having the skins stick to SF until I close out the game) is the ability to use custom skins for certain maps to make the blocks not look retarted and stand out with the layout...

Something like info_blockskin_red, info_blockskin_blue, info_blockskin_neutral or something like that

Each one would have several options that direct to vtf's and it automatically creates a temporary .vmt for each model/texture used by the blocks. You can have options for base textures, lod's, normal maps, and whatever else is used for the destructability of the blocks. This will allow you to load vtf's into the .bsp and run it straight from there too

From a mapping point of view, it lets you add some special skins for special maps (like a pepsi vs coke map using those skins on the forums) and different stuff like that. It allows you to load it into client's computers without actually forcing a permenant skin download

How can you be in College, yet completely unable to spell? It amazes me.

Being unable to spell is a issue that our generation has. However, I find that my people who do spell properly and use proper grammar, just talk shit anyway, or don't post anything of any importance. Thus, even if they use correct grammar, they still look like a tard.

Sorry, fluf, as the guy who made cyberwarfare and now a somewhat-member of the devteam, it's not gonna happen.
It was considered for 1.9.x, but there are too many issues to contend with.

It's an easy thing to do. And it's not like you have to download the content EVERY time you wanna join a server. It's something that's map based, so it's downloaded like any other custom texture.

Besides, i find it a cool addition if you're doing something like I am (a map that the normal blocks just dont look good with)

Forcing players to download skins and textures is a bad idea.
If they want different skins etc then they should apply them to thei instalation.
At a guess all the textures are located in this folder arent they?

No, but there are other issues I/we came accross - the game doesn't like changing textures - you have to do a complete reload every time you join a new map, which takes several seconds and is bloody annoying as it can't be done in the background (as far as I remember, anyway)
On top of that it does increase the file size.

Yes, it'l work on a small scale (as I proved with cyberwarfare) but the issues mean that not all players will get the same experiance, and that many players will be annoyed that the textures stick (ok, it might fit the theme in YOUR map, but not every other one) - so go for it if you want, but it'l never work fully

Also: YAY i'm dyslexic and have a broken keyboard; you can't poke fun at my spelling and/or grammar!

going along with the filesize. 1.9.2 12 skins (cyberwarfare had the unused 2x2 in it) 1.9.4.1 12 per damage level and i think theres like 5 or 6 of the so the filesize increase would be significantly larger.
