Map designs
Not sure how this will go down... but how about a suite of non-symmetrical (Red side is different to blue side) maps?
Yes, it will be hard to balance the gameplay, and yes, I'm not sure if the maps will become popular enough to merit their creation, but if done right, they could be great!
Before you flame my silly ideas into oblivion and IP ban me for my idiocy, just hear my suggestions:
---------------
A mountainside with small buildings and a pit at the bottom and an open castle at the top, with the flags placed at the lowest and highest points respectively.
The team at the top (call them Blue) will get more touches as they will have an easier time getting in, but due to the design of the flag areas, they will find it nearly impossible to get a flag out.
The team at the bottom (Red) will find it nearly impossible to get a touch, but if they do get a single capture (made easier as the top flag D will be higher than Blue can build walls) it could easily win them the match.
The maps will also be less bland and easy to read. It would be a steep learning curve for newbies, but a good match would be worth it.
---------------
You end up with two teams having to adapt to wildly different playing styles as they rush up or down the mountain, yet the game (if done right) should work out evenly.
Any thoughts?
And before anyone tells me to go do it myself: I'm a complete mapping and coding noob. Source SDK crashed the second I opened hammer, and I still have no idea if that's the right tool to use ^^
