Default infinite loop

OK, this is bugging me; with any source based game I play, I get a good few minuets into the game and it starts freezing.

If I don't quit; this gets progressivly worse untill the signal from the computer to the screen stops, then after a while it tells me something about having entered an 'infinite loop', and I have to restart the computer.

I thought this may be due to space on the computer coupled with high-demand from the 3D engine (this puppy is built mostly for sound stuff), but it dosn't happen with other games or 3D programs, such as CoH or Hammer. I've tried setting the grafics really low, and i've cleaned up alot, but still to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas?

The 'infinite loop' report is a graphics card failiure related to nvidea chipsets. Update your drivers to the latest version and check your cards fan and case temperature for overheats.

For reference, an 8800 idles at about 40 degrees celcius and peaks out at 60.
