The Big Announcement!

  • The hiring of the first 'SourceForts Design Team', some of whom will be undertaking positions involved in media production as well as pure design.
  • Khuskan, public relations manager.
  • HisChild, coder.
  • Kaidus, project lead.
Whilst version 2.0.0, currently in a testable pre-alpha state, will feature an entirely original set of media in all aspects of the game, the most important changes are those concerning gameplay. It has become a fact that the gameplay of SourceForts 1.9.2 and it's predecessors is inherently flawed, and therefore the following is a list of key gamplay changes set to be featured in the upcoming version.
  • The build phase has been completely removed. Building and combat will now take place in tandem.
  • A push-style game play mixed with capture the flag.
  • Extensively re-evaluated classes with more defined functions.
  • Players spawn blocks into their ‘hands’ and can remove their own blocks quickly as opposed to using map-design limiting block creators (spawners) and disposal units.
All proposed changes are subject to reviewal, though it remains highly likely that those mentioned within this announcement and it's contents will remain intact. If you feel you require more information regarding the changes, a cut-down version of the official design document is available for public viewing here:

Furthermore, it should be noted that SourceForts 2.0.0 will be released in incremental stages. Primarily, a public beta is to be put fourth containing all game play changes, and place holding media where it is required. Following this will be the final version that will feature entirely custom models, textures, sounds, all tailored to an original visual style that is currently in the works. This will all proceed the release of version 1.9.3, an update to 1.9.2 featuring bug fixes and minor balance resolutions.

Finally, we will also be shortly opening the doors for recruiting. A further announcement with application details and example application forms will be posted shortly. We will be specifically looking for:
  • Character modelers
  • Extra programmers
  • Conceptual artists
  • Materials production
If you fit any of those descriptions, and you want to lend a hand to the new SourceForts 2.0.0, then get your resumes ready!

Khuskan, would have liked to have posted this himself, however due to circumstances beyond his
control was unable to.

Forum crackdown

Tab

Due to Khuskans total ineptitude at being a moderator, he has been demoted to administrator.

Yeah. Forum cleanup starts now. The following will be deleted and land you with a 2 day ban (none of these apply in the Sanity Requiem of course):
  • Any form of 'What is happening' or 'get your acts together' posts or threads. We get the idea thank you, and strangely enough, we are acting on it.
  • Any flaming of any sort in any forums, no matter how subtle.
  • Any post deliberately posting to wind moderators up.
  • Obvious thread derailment
This is of course on top of the already in-effect rules list found here

im ttly srs guys im so gonna start b&ing u for breaking dis ruelz

Edit:
Nocashvalue, LemonPooding and 01101030130 have been selected for to moderate, because they're the three most level headed people here. There are a few other new moderators as well, but they actually know about it, unlike these three.
If you have no idea how to use your new superpowers, send me a PM or something.

EPIC NEWS POST EDIT:

Due to me totally misreading Hazas post and thinking he didn't want us to release his code in game form (and being totally wrong) 193 isn't canceled. We'll release soon.

Haza's Resignation

Tab

This is my official resignation from the Source Forts Development Team.

My reasons for this are both personal and for the fact that this team is dead.
It is managed by people who are inactive and do nothing on the mod themselves.

This forum is in a terrible state, and this can only be blamed on the poor management and little or no rules or no rule enforcement.

I do not give anyone the permission to release the Source Code of any version of Source Forts that contains any of my work. But you may still work on and improve such code, in the control of the Source Forts Team.

Yours Sincerely.
Haza.

I'm Sorry

Tab

Khuskan recently posted a news announcement containing a screenshot of v1.9.3 that was oversized and ruined the layout of the main site. If you were somehow offended, please accept my apology.

Calling all creative players!

Tab

Calling all creative players!

This is your chance to have some of your work in SourceForts 1.9.3.

This is a competition that will be running over the next 2 weeks.

The competition has 3 categories:

Startup Video: Must be 5 to 10 seconds long, and must be in 16:9 aspect ratio(preferably 1920x1080). It must feature one of each of the following, anything with a SourceForts Logo, a Combine model and a Rebel model.

1920x1080 Menu Background: Must contain: anything with a SourceForts Logo, a Combine model, a Rebel model and Version Number(ie 1.9.3).

1280x1024 Menu Background: Must contain: anything with a SourceForts Logo, a Combine model, a Rebel model and Version Number(ie 1.9.3).

You may submit 1 of each category. Videos you can upload via YouTube and images anyway you see fit.

Remember, most videos will be, if chosen as the winner, remade using the SF 1.9.3 beta.

Post all entries into this thread.

Winners will get to play the beta before it's released.

Good Luck,
Haza and all of the SourceForts Dev Team.

To Catch a Griefer

Tab

It has come to our attention that an epidemic is occurring right under our own forts. Of course, I am speaking about griefing. Griefing is the act of deliberately sabotaging a friendly team's fort for the sole purpose of amusement. The SourceForts team recently conducted an undercover operation in order to assess and confront the growing griefer population.

In an never before seen operation, the SourceForts team is proud to present, "To Catch a Griefer". Using the latest internet chat programs and technologies, we have been able to replicate the thoughts and commands of griefers worldwide. We present to you our first suspect. Under the alias "Griefer109" we approached a number of would-be griefers with the prospect of ruining servers.

One such griefer we approached was "andrew`laptop". He divulged to us a number of griefer secrets and tactics.

Quote:

Griefer109: Hello, Andrew. This is Stieffers from the SourceForts Team's "To Catch a Griefer". Is it true that you were going to grief Billeh's "Steamfriends" server?
andrew`laptop: whaa... i dunno wha you're talking about bro...
Griefer109: Did you not say, "i am ganna fuck that server up with the most 1337 hacks i got dude!"
andrew`laptop: i dunno where you got that
Griefer109: Did you not later go on to say, "Billeh deserves to be killed for his crappy server that has a 1000 blocklimit"
Griefer109: Is the previous statement not a death threat under California law?
andrew'`laptop: please man, i was just trying to have some fun

It is clear from the above chat log that andrew`laptop was indeed... just "trying to have some fun". However, where can the line be draw between fun, and destruction? An entire server was under threat and nothing could be done. Join us next week for our three part series on "To Catch a Griefer" where we discuss the morality issues surrounding griefing.
