A Proposal
As I sign onto Steam and load up SF my mind wonders about the mods future. I think about how glorious the days of old were.
The days when we could get kills and use the points from these kills to buy weapons.
The days when one could put the flag wherever he chose, whether that was on the roof of Testmap or the deep corner of Fieldtrip. I think too, about the number of servers that existed during this happy time.
As time progressed, a plague has come upon us, a slow but sure killer. Slowly this villain has taken both servers and players from us. It has so deeply rooted itself within the SF community that drastic measures must be undertaken to rid ourselves of this affliction.
How can we do this, without say, reversing time? I modestly propose that we ban all players who have downloaded SourceForts after the release of version 1.9.2 from playing the new version.
How would this help us? It would kill the disease that is infecting the servers. Uberforts.
Uberforts came about as a serious mode of playing during the late 1.9.2 era and continues to now. If we eliminate the population that inhabits the god forsaken servers that allow players to build less efficiently than the WTC reconstruction, we can cure the game.
The problem lies in finding out who in fact played before this time. A quiz could be used to test people's knowledge of previous versions. Old server records could be looked up in the Library of Congress. The Steam IDs could be matched with people trying to play the new version in some sort of database.
Once SF is cleansed of the new players, we can return to the glory days of the Mod. We can capture flags as we frolic into the sun in Sphinx's skybox, in peace, harmony, and enjoyment.
