Default Recruitment Guide

If you have fallen in love with the way SourceForts plays and how clever and logical a game it is then obviously you want to take your playing a step further by joining a clan.

There's always a look out for players that stand out, many clans choose not to accept applications and would rather watch out for regulars on their server that stand out above the other pubbers.

All clans look out for players that have talent in a certain skill and stick with it rather then have a good overall standard. This provides them with a lot of choice when playing other clans as they can choose an appropriate team for the type of match it will be.

For example if you were to play a clan with strong defensive capabilities you would want to pick a strong attacking team as to stand a chance in getting those vital flag touches or caps.

If you happened to be an excellent engineer your job would be to create holes in their defences or ramp over their walls. You would focus on doing this all throughout the match as to give the team cappers an easier job to get into the opponents base and ultimately touch the flag and try score a cap for your team.

Of course it's not all about what happens in the fight round. Clever base designs, good tactics and good building skills are also a good way to get you noticed as a player that adapts to certain situations in gameplay.

There are a few tips I would give you on how to get noticed by a clan and maybe even get you a recruit offer.

For a start, regular on these forums and on certain servers so you get your face known around the SourceForts community, regular members are always a good sign for new recruits as they are more likely to stay regular and be around for clan practices and matches.

Stick to one or two classes and work on certain goals, individual or team. For example if you're a dedicated capper then you can't rely on other members of your team to always be there to help you. To overcome this problem learning certain abilities like trick jumping and bunny hopping would be extremely useful as they can greatly increase your chances of doing your job well and make you a player that is less reliant on your team doing their jobs well.

Another essential skill is being able to work in a team as a team, some of the best SourceForts clans mostly have one or two individual players that are good at their chosen class for each class but even so that's not enough to win the match. Teamplay is a big part for every single member for a clan as it can be the difference between a victory and a defeat. If a engineer is trying to breach the oppositions defenses and needs cover then it's crucial you give him it regardless of what class you are (except for a scout, depending on the circumstances)

Last but not least it's crucial that you can communicate and get on well with players. Obviously in pub servers that may just be a bit of simple chat in build rounds but a player that has xfire and is capable of using software like ventrillo or teamspeak stands a much better chance of getting recruited.

I hope this helps with all your clanning needs and feel free to post more advice and tips.

It's weird how trying to imagine you saying any of this it just doesn't work. You type totally differently from how you talk.

This is still a good and very valid thread. It deserves a revival.

#4: Know your maps, especially the official ones. Download any popular non-official maps before matches, so you can join as quick as possible.

#5: Communicate well. Set up key binds (bind F keys to team_say with your userconfig.cfg). Bind the team voice/Teamspeak/Ventrilo key to something easy to reach quickly and easy to hold in a firefight - \ works best for me. Set up your microphone levels properly - feedback is screwy.

TBH it's better to just get someone to make a .RAR of all the really popular ones (in BSP form, too) or grab 'em off unknown-files.
