Vossey, Vossey, Vossey...

Tab

Huge thanks to Vossey for the award given to SourceForts in their last magazine! For those lucky enough to speak French, click the image to download the article (page 22). For the rest of us, here's a rough translation (thanks google):

Quote:

SourceForts puts you into the time of the great castles: construction and destruction are on the menu, but this time in a futuristic environment! It is the mod of the year 2006 for the Vossey's staff for its originality and gameplay !

Each game is divided into two different phases. The construction phase where you will have to carry out the construction of defences with blocks of various shape from plates to cubes, and the combat phase where you leave to attack the enemies camp and bring back their flag to your base while preventing the same from happening to you.

Meanwhile, as FictiousWills 'Steps to producing an in-game model' comes to an end, there's a great chance to grab a look at some new media as well as giving us your thoughts on the work done.

We'll be having another one of those diarys soon, so watch this space!

also, Khuskan released a short new track. Not that anyone cares about that. Ho-hum.

League Scripts Updated

Tab

The league server configuration and EventScripts files have been updated. Server admins may download the files here. They have been updated to fix a bug which caused the default server configuration file to override the league configuration settings. Also, city has been removed from the list of acceptable league maps. Also, for any league participants who haven't done so, download the pre-match map from here. Place it in your Sourcemods/sourceforts/maps folder.

PC Zone featurette

Tab

SourceForts was lucky enough to be chosen for PCZones monthly Fight Club event! Although really no devs were there (not sure where they got that idea from) well done to everyone who did show up and really made the mod look something special. Click the picture for more.

On another note, the voting for ModDB's Mod of the Year event is over, and the results will be in later this month. If it's anything like last time, there will be a radio show where the top mods get some airtime to talk about their ventures. We made position 13 last time, and given the support from the community this time around, the hopes are high! More details will be posted soon!

One last thing, the coding position has been filled. Thanks to everyone who sent in e-mails (A suprising number - choosing who to take on was tricky!) and as a result 2.0 development is now steaming on. Watch this space.

League Participants Please Read

Tab

It seems that only three clans have met the requirements to actually start challenging other clans! In order to be eligible, everyone on your team must have their Steam Id filled in. Also, your clan must have at least five members. You guys begged and pleaded for a league, but it seems like you aren't willing to work for. The league depends on you guys! Without you it's going to fail!

Help Wanted

Tab

The SourceForts team is looking for a talented coder to help us out. The position is for a supplemental coder, not a lead. We want someone capable of working in a team oriented environment with at least two years of C++ experience. Familiarity with the Half-Life 2 SDK is a plus. The SourceForts team is a tight knit group of people who love working on the mod, and we hope to add one more to our group. If you're interested e-mail us at info@sourcefortsmod.com.

Top 100!

Tab

Mod Database's Mod of the Year competition has whittled down it's 4000 mods and presented us with a list of 100 to choose among. And... it looks like SourceForts has made the cut! We are quite pleased with this and greatly appreciate those that voted and got us this far. Now let's get back into the voting mood and keep us in the running for this second half.

League Is Finished!

Tab

You heard me right! The league is finally done and open for business. It has been nearly two years since the first visions of a SourceForts league emerged, and they have finally been met. I know... I haven't exactly been urgent on my way toward a finished league, but a lot has held me up.

Now for the technical details. Server admins who want to run a league match must download the league server package. This uses Mani Mod and EventScripts so both of those must be installed on your server. Players participating in the league must download the league client package. This contains the pre-match map.

When running a league match, server admins should use Mani's ma_rcon command to execute the league configuration file. The command in its entirety is ma_rcon exec league.cfg. After doing this they should change the map to sf_league_pre_match. The rest is all automated.

Click the League link at the top of the page to view the league webpage. Here you can register your clan, plan matches, and submit scores. The league uses a ladder system to allow for a more relaxed environment to schedule matches. Clans are ranked based on points earned by winning matches. If you have any problems private message me on the forums.
