Water dosn't need to be removed, it just needs swapping to a non-reflective shader.
Reflective water on SF can knock up to about 30 fps off lower end system and 10 off higher end. It's noticable in the current version of overload because it's not optimised at all.
Put mat_wireframe 1 on and try to count the polygons. Your eyes will hurt. Strangely enough, my jazzed up version of overload has a lower rendering cost than the current one.
