We simply need one. Other mods are blessed with the fact that people can't do much to screw things up. Worst case scenario: someone goes team killing. SourceForts, on the other hand, relies on people working together. When someone can run around hammering the 'r' button and ruin ten minutes of work for everyone on the server, we're bound to have problems.
Devicenull has been kind enough to run the global banlist for all this time, but he now feels it neccesary to shut it down. He makes very valid arguments as to why he is shutting it down, and they make sense. He wants to put pressure on the dev's to fix this problem, and I don't blame him. However, the banlist did help remedy the situation, and I think that it's needed. I think that anyone who remembers the myg0t rush awhile back will agree.
While I was doing some research into this. I found that Devicenull has made his plugin available
here. I'm planning on using his plugin for running the banlist. In
his explanation as to why he is shutting his down, he provided some tips to people who want to start up a similar system. These all make sense, and I plan on incorporating them. For instance, I'm not going to give anyone the ability to give a global ban. It'll take several bannings from separate servers for the global ban to take effect. Also, evidence is going to be essential. Rather than a few screenshots, it'll take demos showing griefing, freezestatus'ing, and
warning the player that his actions can get him a global banlist.
Now, I have not set this up yet (in fact, I have not started) and before I do, I'd like to hear from you... comments/suggestions/concerns?
