Default Valve's cl_restrict_server_commands update

Hi all,
I know that this is a bit late, but I couldn't find any topics on the forum...

Recently (16th of November) Valve released an update that stopped the server (admins) running commands on a client's game. This makes it impossible for server admins to maintain fairness on their servers, like for example, running scans to check for hacks. The worst part of this update, being that the default value for this command is 1, meaning that people who don't even know what the console is, will have server side commands disabled.
Also meaning that by default, hackers will be able to do what they wish.

There is a rather large consensus to automatically kick people from your server who do not change this setting, over at the Mani Admin forums.
http://www.mani-admin-plugin.com/ind...6&topic=3303.0

I am firmly behind this action, but I wanted to know what the Sourceforts (admin) Community though about this before enforceing it on my server.

Thanks,
Cannon_fodder

Here are the following numbers that can be used with cl_restrict_server_commands:

* 0 = Don't restrict any server commands
* 1 = Restrict server commands in Valve multiplayer games
* 2 = Restrict server commands in all multiplayer games
The default is 1. I believe this means someone would have to change it to 2 for it to work in SourceForts, and thus you should kick them if you wish.

edit: If you wanted to test this, join the CC server with an offensive name. I'm not sure if the server has a script that changes your name, or if the admins do it but here are the results I would expect:

cl_restrict_server_commands 0 - your name gets changed
cl_restrict_server_commands 1 - your name gets changed
cl_restrict_server_commands 2 - your name doesn't get changed

This is assuming that your name is one of the variables protected. If you set cl_restrict_server_commands to 2 and your name still gets changed, then it's not protected and you have to find another way to test it, or this entire post is wrong.

Hackers are not a problem in SF, so I don't think autokicking is necessary.

Seen a few speed hackers but apart from that it's a rare thing.

myg0t have yet to do a serious attack on the SourceForts community. But we have better be ready for when (or if) they do attack.

They can accomplish their goals in SF very well without any hacking.

They did a serious one for a little bit, then they stopped mostly as a high ranking member said that it wasn't very skilled to rage in SF.
