I have been working on a program i call steamtrack (
www.steamtrack.com). It uses the logging functionality built in to source to track players and match IP addresses to steam ids. Very much the same way hlstats does- however, this is the only program i know of that captures IP addresses as well. (this has proved useful for adding ip bans for all the steamid bans on the Zd server) The system does NOT track kills/deaths/ranks etc. The IP addresses are used as part of the auth system to the web front end as well.
Right now we are working on the pieces to use it for a global aka list and at some point, maybe even a ban list.
It will be a useful tool for server owners when trying to do player research- it has already proven of use even in its infancy. With time, it will get only easier and easier to use.
I am posting as an invention to server owners. We would like to have all the servers contribute logs. In exchange for logging to our log collector, you can have access to all collected data- and once the server plugin is completed (metamod plugin) be able to run that on your server.
If you would like to help, offer logging or have questions, you can ask myself or Welder. I can be found in the zendeath irc channel most of the time.
