Hello Everyone,

After a long silence from the team, I would like to present this Christmas treat. I've been working on it for a while - a long, long while.

I think it's about time to show the new building system I'm preparing for Project Haven. It's still far from finished, but I guess it has reached a state stable enough to share with you.


On this video, you can see the new building gun concept where blocks are rotated on each axis, the long awaited block snapping feature where you can align blocks with other blocks that are already in place, and a very crude version of the block "warp-in" effect where you can see the blocks that are being spawned.

PS (From Stieffers): I've updated the download links on our downloads page so that they now link to the fixed 1.9.4.1 installers courtesy of community members Tobel and hicks. This means the mod is playable again! If you already have 1.9.4.1 installed you can download the updater. Otherwise, grab the full install.

I think that building technique looks really intuitive. I know you guys are going for the whole total conversion thing, with capture points and whatnot, but honestly if you put this new building with some simple HL2-weapon classes I think it would be really fun.

I mean the original SF wasn't very complex at all, but we all still loved to play it.

We're trying for a Stage 1 and Stage 2 release of the mod. Stage 1 involves adding all the sweet code, but none of the cool art, and calling it a thang. Stage 2 involves incorporating the previously sweet code with the newly cool art and calling it a new thang.

As any hobbyist project, we work when we have available time.
As I said before, due to RL stuff (mostly due to my AI graduation project on university), I'm not having plenty of available time to work on PH. But whenever I'm not tired and with available time, I'm doing small bits of code and adding to the codebase.
As a wild guess, I'd say there's more than 100 hours on the new building system. It's pretty optimized, doing most of the calculations on client side.
Only those who saw the very few initial prototypes know the crazy stuff we had initially. I'm glad it evolved to what we have currently. Still, I think there's plenty of room for improvement.

The first playable alpha (maybe even beta) is close. I'm having some nice plans for it, but I need some help in coding, due to my strict available time. Still, it's very close.

Don't get me wrong but I don't think this type of building 'gun' is fun at all.

So just to let you know I'll continue my hl2dm project, from now on.

Incase you missed the memo, building is old news and the aim is to make people not have to spend ages doing it. Fun wasn't really anyones intention.

You can't honestly be picky with the developers in this game. Why would they give a shit? It's their free time, their game, they do what they want. Plus you should be thrilled that there's any sign of development given this game's history

Im sorry to say your mod has fallen of the metaphorical Band Wagon. Garry's mod has had something similar to this back in Gmod 2 while you guys are still figuring out how to do it *Easier* without first doing said task. it is true that it is you're Mod and Your Free time. If your gonna bother doing something at least do the simple way first. THEN go and try to make it more complicated like keys for every type of block and such. the 6 servers I've ever seen for this game are Ghost towns! PLEASE RELEASE THIS ADDITION B4 MAKING AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME. otherwise the last servers might DISAPPEAR. This mod has awesome potential Personally and I'd hate to see it wasted.
