i'm pretty sure building was made the "complicated way" first so that it would require some planning and or skill to be successful.

lastly, releasing a "new version" so the game doesn't die now won't do anything. it's happened like twice in the past two years, seen an activity boost for like two weeks, then everyone quits again.

Building was based on the simplest way to code it. Which is why block manipulation is so awkward. Knifa is responsible for the building mechanics that we still use in v1.9.x.
