The bits at the sides could have been done with just 2 of the long planks, also the two inner bits could hve been done with just 1 each if you positioned the lower ones a bit higher.

How many fucking times will people rethink it, jesus. If you are good at skywalk that's all you need to ever play for this game really.

Sure you could just play skywalk but that would get repetitive and boring, variety is better even if other maps suck, who would want to build the same fort over and over, its like only ever watching your favourite movie.

Indeed but if new maps are played people who know how and where to build can no longer perform their mastered tricks and thus kinda evening the playing field...which they don't want :P

Problem is, there's not much more varying left to do. They've practically perfected skywalk building with 35 blocks, enough so that they're making it 30 blocks to even things out. Most players can't get past the 35 block build on skywalk, and those that can are far from perfect at them. It's rare to ever see a touch before a broken block if people build it all right (which is, admittedly, almost as rare)

The reason people like skywalk so much is because it's relatively straightforward compared to so many other maps. Maps like tactical have buttons and such to bother with, other maps have tunnels that are more a nuisance than anything, others put the block spawners it stupid locations, some have bottlenecks you can block off completely, others require an ungodly amount to do the same. Skywalk has just the wall building width, just the right length to get across the midfield, it all just seems to fit well. Were someone to take those traits and make a different map using them, it would become extremely popular extremely quickly. People like the gameplay sky offers, and they won't stray from but for another, better map.

I don't think this is true, because scrims are won and lost based on skill in the combat round. The playing field is NOT even, and changing the maps won't even it up.

That's fine.
