2.0 keep the current game mode
No sandbox mode, the current gamemode.
Leave it as a sub gamemode.
Just change the models or new content as the mod is going to be developed, like new player models.
Someone said that the current game mode can not be developed any further. You don't have to. Just keep it.
Noone is going to stick with an outdated version, so noo, playing 1.9.4 while 2.0 is out ain't no solution.
Yes i arleady hear you scream stupid Wayne, has been discussed Ten thousand times before, Go play gmod, l2play, l2b, play for some time, come back when you grew up, and what not.
give me a !good! reason why this should not be done.
Please keep in mind that if you do not like the current game mode, it does not mean that everybody else also does not like it.
Since Einsteins relativity theory we all know that everything is relative to his own point of view. So please if you do not like that idea, are too bored to think about the real question (just to call it back to your mind: give me a good reason why this should not be done).
Or just want to post here because i started the thread, just go spam someone elses idea.
Now Back to topic.
As far as i can see, to implement this solution there has to be done the following:
- Edit the code so the old gamemode also gets the same models as the new gamemode.
- Introduce a server variable to decide which game mode is being played.
- keep the current game
(maybe add a second map tag like cp_ so the current maps can be kept while new maps and layouts are needed for the new gamemmode)
These three(four) things are codework of maybe an ?hour.
Well at least i can not think of reasons why this should not be done.
If there are any, please tell me.

The current SF game mode is poorly designed, poorly executed, it causes more problems than it solves, and the extremely low rate of returning players shows that something is very wrong.
You are right that what is fun and enjoyable varies from player to player, but that does not mean that SF should continue to support previous maps/game modes/blocks/etc., in a pointless attempt to please every single person.

Where is the reason you should not do a small amount of codework and keep the current game as is?
Where is the problem with doing it?
As far as I can see that you simply wont do it because you don't want to do it.
Maybe i forgot to say that you should keep the current game mode as is.
Except for maybe player- or weaponmodels.

So the Construct Mod will be a fort building Mod while in the new sourceForts you construct small barricades.
well if construct gets a playable version out beofre 2.0 is released then it might be an option. But except for a mysteious homepage i did not see anything from construct

Because playing 1.9.4 while 2.0 is out IS a solution. Shoehorning an outdated game into a new one as an extra doesn't make any sense; having them both operational separately does.
If you like 1.9.4, could you just play it and stop trying to fuck 2.0 up?

Your thoughts on how long this would take are seriously misguided. Your understanding on the Source engine as a whole is seriously misguided. Adding in two game modes is possible, sure. And there's some chance, as I've said a number of times, that there will be a game mode that allows a sandbox style of building. That wouldn't be hard to do, as it would just be like an infinite build round.
However, you're saying you want this purely because you want new media but to add support for this into 2.0 not only would we have to have two sets of weapons so they didn't change the 1.9.x style of gameplay you so love; but we'd also have to create totally new media because the 2.0 weapons wouldn't fit very well around having the same game mechanics as 1.9.4.
It's. Not. Going. To. Happen.
It would takes weeks if not months to fully implement 1.9.x in 2.0. The code for 1.9.x is awful and for a much older version of the engine and so the game rules would have to be entirely rewritten. There is absolutely no way we will be considering supporting a broken game mode, when a totally playable version of it already exists.
On the construct website press the key next to the 1 on your keyboard to get the main site to display.

Sorry Wayne, we are just not in the mood to cater just for you. Stick with 1.9.4. End.
