Default xp vs vista

I'm currently running vista on my new laptop and games (css dods etc) are horribly laggy. I'm running it on minimum settings and have set the games to play at dx 7 which gives me about 10-15 fps

css Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card,

my laptop:

athlon 64 x2 dual core 1.90 ghz

1918 mb RAM

ATI radeon x1200

Now obviously the graphics card is integrated but even so shouldn't the games run ok with all the settings turned down?

Would installing xp give me better fps compared to vista?

That is pretty bad, try using xp low - average settings. I thought Vista needed all this upgrade shit in the first place?

To be honest, I feel like Vista is still terribly buggy and overpriced.

I have had very few problems with vista in the year or so I've had it, and all of those problems have been fixed with driver updates. I noticed no discernible difference in framerate between the two operating systems. True, many benchmarks put XP above Vista performance-wise, but by a margin of only 3-5%, hardly a difference you'll notice, especially with drivers increasing framerate with every release (I got a driver just a week ago that bumped my performance in Crysis quite a bit).

To be quite honest, though, the reason you're lagging so much is because of your graphics card. An x1200 will not give you great performance, Vista or otherwise.

Do you know if it's posable to upgrade the integrated graphics card or have a dedicated card in a laptop? (noob question but I'm crap at this stuff)

Most laptop graphics cards are soldered right onto the motherboard. Even if you could take them off, there isn't really a public supply of laptop graphics chipsets.

Do you think if I took it to PC world (where I got it) they would be able to do anything?

Yeah, probably. But it won't be cheap.
