Default Localization Problem Causes Crash on Load

It´s like this, i played SF before and no problems, but now whenever i want to play it just keeps crashing after the intro and says something about memory could not be "read"

this also happened now when i tried to play the awakening mod and it happened with Gmod but i fixed it by installing CSS.

and yes, i have 1.9.3 and HL2M.

anyone got a clue?

Moderator Comment: As described below, not all languages supported by Steam have corresponding localization information in the SourceForts Client package. This can cause crashes in version 1.9.3 and earlier. If you are (mostly) fluent in English and also fluent in a currently unsupported language, we would greatly appreciate your assistance in translating the SourceForts User Interface. See below for more information and feel free to post here with questions or links to updated resource files. If you notice an error in a translation that has already been submitted, please first send a PM to the person that submitted it and discuss how to correct the problem.

tbh... I don't think even Valve knows what causes this :/

Tried installed the crash fix?
http://wookie.de/master/sf_crashfix.zip

Might not be something caused by sf, but its worth a shot

I used to have a problem like this with CSS, it crashed because i didn't update my graphics drivers on my late Radeon 9250, i got the catalyst drivers and bonza it worked.

You have Half Life 2 single player installed?

This is a pretty generic error indicating that an object that the HL2.exe tried to access was not present in memory. There are a number of potential reasons for this.

This suggests that you're missing one or more of the required components to run SourceForts:
  1. Steam: check.
  2. Half-Lie 2: Deathmatch: check.
  3. SourceForts Client: check.
  4. Source SDK: ???
I recently rebuilt my system from bare metal, and installed everything except the SDK. The first time I tried to launch SourceForts, steam automatically installed the SDK base and everything worked fine. Could be that your Half-Life package does not include the SDK.

Please reply if you solve this or not and let us know what you tried, because I'd like to update the FAQ to reflect this problem a little better for 1.9.3.

The thing about the memory read error is that it's not a very good error to be getting. It's caused when something wrong with the software fails to produce something that another part of the software relies on, and this can be caused from any number of things.

Since nobody else has this problem, we can pretty much rule out a problem with the sourceforts side of the code.

A bug that seems to be popping up recently is the steam friends UI overlay breaking the game. Normally this causes a crash after the game gets past the menu, but it's worth a shot. Go into file>settings and click the 'in-game' tab, then disable the in-game steam community check-box.

Else, do the standard routine - verify the integrity of all the games SF relies on (right click>properties>local files>verify integrity of game cache), and make sure you've run all these components at least once on their own to allow steam to create the files they require.
