Default Computer Troubles

I recently bought and installed a new computer, this one to be exact http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229066 . The problem i'm having is the fact that it's slower than my old singlecore 2.4 Ghz processor, 512 MB ram, 80 GB Harddrive comp at absolutely everything. Simple programs, steam games, internet etc. It also can't run more than 1 thing at once without having freezing issues and crashes. I thought maybe it was explained by the OS switch from XP to Vista, but there's too large of a difference between system specs for the new one to be slower even with vista. I have updated my drivers, defragged harddrive, done disc space checks, tweaked the settings in an attempt to allow more speed, turned off vistas indexing. Basically everything I can think of, but it's still extremely slow. I basically need help finding out if it's a hardware problem, or some issue with vista. Help please?

It might be a combination with both, the communication of vista to the hardware.
not sure on how to fix this because i refuse to make the switch to vista.

btw that seems like a very nice machine

Powersupply.

Er but yea I have Vista home premium 64 bit as well and I do not have those problems. When you say "installed" you mean you've tinkered with it right out of the box? If so did it work slow from the start?

EDIT: Dammit Jake! :<

It's probably the SPU.

I blame Vista and it's lack of ability to allocate memory properly.

Vista is not the issue here. I can't say what is, as there are too many things that it might be, but making the switch to vista is not going to cause issues like that, and I really don't know why anyone would expect them to. Mejorpain: if Vista is making your computer slow, it's because your computer IS slow; I ran it just fine on an athlon64 single core, which means that just about any desktop processor from the past few years should be able to run it just as well, if not better. The computer in the link really *should* be beating vista to a pulp, but quite clearly isn't doing as well as it should.

First off, if you've got a warranty on it (you should, seeing as you got it from newegg), return it. This is very likely a hardware problem that, whatever ends up being wrong with it, won't be something you can fix without buying some new parts.

ive never even tried to run vista on my machine
i wouldn't waste money on buying a new OS when im completely happy with what i have now
im only going to upgrade in a few years cause then XP will be obsolete and then i will have to do it to play games.
