Technically they could start another NeoForts, but everyone would laugh at them. On the more technical note, for those who may be interested, it's likely that you would only have read access to the code and any fixes you make would need to be submitted as patches and reviewed by myself or one of the other programmers.
We'd be handling it this way so we can be more free with who we let in. The code is really showing it's age, but people have expressed a wish for us to open source it. This way those with an interest can view it and submit patches to it, but we don't have to worry about people joining solely so they kind slip some code in to give them an advantage or break a release.
