Default What's wrong with 1941?

I keep seeing people complaining in other threads that "19x needs to be fixed".

What needs to be fixed? The only major problem I know of is the invisible exploit- which seems to be resolved already by some fancy server plugins.

Hell if I know. It only seems to be the people unhappy with the direction that 2.0 is taking that complain about 1941 not getting updated.

I feel the same way, although there is a thread with a bug list is there much point in trying to fix it. It only delays 2.0.0 all the more and then creates new bugs in the process. Although Sayyan has recently posted a really good idea involving 1.9.X.

If you look at that It's pretty obvious what is planned.

Oldfags want SF to stay the same.
If this were real life, they'd have voted McCain.

Also there are a fair few bugs, tbh, but none of them game breaking.

Also also; Black, shh, they cannae handle it yet.

Actually I've just spoken to Sayyan and I can give some small information about it, so screw my riddle post.

Basically what's being thought about is gathering a small team of community members, who feel they can truly help work on 1.9.X whilst we're working on 2.0.0. Sort of like a second team in a sense, however the code isn't completely open sourced as it's still under our control for release and such. So it's not like you can just stroll in pretend you're going to help, then walk out and start up another NeoForts.

This would probably keep both people happy as well.

Technically they could start another NeoForts, but everyone would laugh at them. On the more technical note, for those who may be interested, it's likely that you would only have read access to the code and any fixes you make would need to be submitted as patches and reviewed by myself or one of the other programmers.

We'd be handling it this way so we can be more free with who we let in. The code is really showing it's age, but people have expressed a wish for us to open source it. This way those with an interest can view it and submit patches to it, but we don't have to worry about people joining solely so they kind slip some code in to give them an advantage or break a release.

Major, perhaps you should read the above two posts by me and Black.

I honestly don't see why you don't open source it. It'd do the community a lot better.
Also, no GCool, oldfags want change.

It basically is, but there's less chance of some one giving themselves the humiliation of trying to steal the code, then trying to start up their own mod with it. At the end of the day the code still gets worked on and fixed up so where's the major difference?
