Default Sourceforts respawn command ?

Hey !

i've been playing sf on and off with friends and we all quite enjoy the mod. One question i would like to ask is the question:

Does SourceForts have some sort of console command to alter the respawn times?
It has been quite irritating (as we generally play 4v4) to find that when taking the enemys flag and killing their defenders they have respawned before you can say 'muffin' and killed you thus returning the flag.

So if theres a console command that puts a selectable timer on respawning please share it !

thanks

No, and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to add one.

Although your point is very valid, a lot of maps have been designed with this limitation in mind - It makes map developers have to put the flags far from the spawn point. Although it's caused by an oversight on our half and it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place, if we did add a command to delay spawn it would have horrible effects on many maps, while improving a few.

As much as I hate having to say this, it's pretty much down to the mapper if spawning is a problem in their map.

Yes i quite agree.

It is up to the mapper to arrange how the respawning is set up and that by putting in a respawn time would screw many maps up, but would improve a few.

If it could improve some maps however i think that it would be a good idea to add an optional command for hosts of private games to set for their server. I'm not intending for this to be a long time like 15 sec or something, just a small 2-5 sec (whatever works in an appropriate manner for the specific map).

I realize that this isn't a massively important issue and i'm not going to go off and cry if you do nothing about it. I just thought it might help make for a few better gamez !

just from experience people get pissy when it takes any amount of time to spawn. (even half a second due to spawn blocking)

Mmh, I find sometimes spawning is delayed, even when the spawn isn't blocked, which is quite annoying when you're in the middle of an intense match.

Though I completely see Qdog's point, a command that could be used in a match situation wouldn't really harm anything, unless we had another OG Gaming situation, where the server owner borked up the way SF was meant to be played.

The other thing is- 1.9.4.1 is pretty much ready, as far as I know, so adding this command may push the release back, thus lengthening the development time of 2.0

Ooh, just a thought. I know nothing about scripting at all, so I may be completely wrong, but Xenon has done SF server coding before through the SM admin mod.
For all I know, it may be possible to set the respawn time through this admin mod.
Why don't you ask him about it?

Mmh, so maybe the command would be useful for scrim situations, but in this current form of sourceforts, it wouldn't be sensible to create the command, then test, then release etc etc.

Perhaps 2.0 will have something similar? O.o

If you ever implement respawn times make it so that its more like the dystopia way (the more people who are dead, the longer the time), not the valve way (some complicated system that takes into account many things to determine your spawn time). I honestly don't see how it would be necessary to add a spawn timer? With a respawn timer, blocks would go down even faster than they already do.
