Default Pro-Tips

There's a lot of new players turning up to try and get competitive in SourceForts (believe it or not) and, frankly, they're getting pretty good.

I designed this solely to those upcoming players who want to get as good as they can. A lot of this might be obvious to you, but again it's aimed at newer players. ^^

Feel free to post your own little tips in here. That's why I made this thread.

Soldier Pro-Tips:

If you're scrimming, play seriously. Grip your mouse hard and concentrate. Fooling around is likely to get a nade planted straight into your face.

Always, I repeat -ALWAYS-, aim for the head. It takes like 5 headshots to kill an enemy soldier, and about 2 to kill an engineer.

When reloading, bunnyhop like crazy. Try and move out of your enemies sights so they can't easily melt your face.
Use your head. You could pretend you're reloading, and wait for the enemy to empty their clips. Then strike.
Reload. A lot. Always make sure your clip is full when you're not in the middle of a firefight, otherwise the enemy can easily get the drop on you.

Be wary of everything around you. Seriously, watch out for those enemy engineers spamming left, right and centre.
You may not realise it, but knowing how to trickjump can help a soldier a lot. If you can bunnyhop good whilst maintaining a good aim, you're going to be a killing machine.

Don't go into a firefight on your own. Stick back and wait until you can rally up another soldier. You don't want to go into the heart of the enemy base just to get faceraped by 3 soldiers. You're just wasting time.

Fuck sake, when midfield is in your control DON'T WASTE TIME AND SHOOT BLOCKS. The faster you get to the flag, the bigger your lead will be in the long run.

Utilise cover. SourceForts doesn't allow much room for cover but if it's there, I suggest you use it. It'll make you really hard to hit without comprimising your aim.

Maybe this is just me, but I frequently pub/scrim with music on and I do goof around in-game. Getting too serious will probably just let the WTF-fest that is SourceForts frustrate you. If you're mad, you're bad.

I disagree with this. When attacking fast-moving enemies like b-hopping Engis or Scouts, you're simply not going to hit the face every time. Instead, invest some ammo into hitting the body to slow their movement, and then blast the face.

Sometimes all it takes is a good distraction for a few seconds to win the entire game. There are times to go alone, and times to wait for teammates.

Taking tips from Draken is like knowingly sharing a heroin needle with an AIDS patient.

I'm willing to take that risk.

I didn't mean seriously as if your life depends on it, but there's got to be some form of determination in there to win. That's what competitive play is all about.

Good point.

More like a few milliseconds. You'll be dead before your team can do anything worthwhile.

Because taking advice from you is any better.

No way. I can burn about 5 seconds or more of enemy fire by just jumping around like an idiot and not actually trying to kill them.

I guess it just depends who you're playing against.
