GED change will be costly for N.Y. Every year, roughly 26,000 young people and adults in New York State get a GED credential, qualifying them for decent jobs and access to a college education. That will all change on Jan. 1, 2014, when the GED Testing Servicerecently taken over by Pearson LLC, a for-profit corporation introduces a radically new version of this familiar high school equivalency exam that will cost twice as much to take and be significantly more difficult to pass.
