First female chief justice for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court

Read more…BRADES, Montserrat – The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court has its first female Chief Justice.
In a letter to His Excellency the Governor Adrian Davis, the Honourable Justice Janice Mesadis Pereira stated that on Tuesday, 16 October, she received notification from the Crown Office of the Ministry of Justice in England that her appointment to be Chief Justice for the ECSC had been confirmed.
The notice included a copy of the Letters Patent signed by Her Majesty the Queen on 28 September 2012, appointing Pereira to be Chief Justice. The notice of appointment was published in the London Gazette on 4 October 2012.
SVG to pick up additional airlift needs for Festival Season, says Premier Meade

BRADES, Montserrat – An executive of SVG Air met with officials from the Ministry of Communications & Works and the Honourable Premier Reuben T. Meade on Thursday to work through arrangements to cover the island’s air transport needs for the present and coming festival season. Read more…
Premier Meade confirmed late Thursday that meetings were held with Paul Gravel, CEO of SVG Air to agree to terms for meeting the island’s airlift needs to cover the gap left by the grounding of Fly Montserrat earlier this week.
Carib Surf to provide ferry service this weekend between Antigua and Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat – The MV Carib Surf will be providing ferry service between Antigua and Montserrat twice daily this weekend.
The Ministry of Communications & Works announced Wednesday that the ferry will make two round trips this Friday and Saturday to accommodate passengers and the cargo backlog in Antigua.
The ferry will leave Montserrat at 7am and 3pm with return from Antigua at 9am and 5:30pm.
The ride is estimated at one hour and 10 minutes.
The Carib Queen is on dry dock for its regular maintenance ahead of the busy festival season and will be back in service on Thursday, 25 October.

ASSI investigators to review FlyMontserrat operations

BRADES, Montserrat – The UK-based Air Safety Support International (ASSI) will be conducting an audit of FlyMontserrat later this week.
According to Maria Boyle, CEO of ASSI, their Airworthiness Surveyor Craig Stubbington and Flight Operations Inspector Cydric Desbarida will both be travelling to the Caribbean to begin the audit of the airline’s operations.
The airworthiness surveyor is to travel to Anguilla, where FlyMontserrat’s aircraft are serviced. The flight operations inspector will travel to Montserrat early on Friday morning to look at the operational side.

Police to begin CheckStop Programme on Thursday

Read more…BRADES, Montserrat – The Traffic Department of the Royal Montserrat Police Service will be instituting a “CheckStop” Programme this Thursday across the island.
According to Deputy Commissioner Bradley Siddell, the programme will focus on “one of our Policing Plan objectives “Improve Road Safety / Safer Streets”. Every two to four weeks the Traffic Department will announce a new road safety theme. For example “Working Lights & Signals”, “Stopping Behind the Sign”, “Follow Safely Not Close”, or “Park Where Your Permitted”, etc.”
