ACTSI Priorities:
- Create an Atlanta-wide home for clinical and translational investigators;
- Develop an Atlanta-wide integrated clinical research network for conducting clinical and translational science;
- Integrate, improve and innovate the quality of education and training programs for the next generation of clinical and translational researchers;
- Leverage pilot grant programs to promote new and interdisciplinary clinical and translational science;
- Develop a clinical and translational research program for children in Georgia;
- Enhance, through a focus on health disparities, community engagement in clinical and translational research.
Mission
Through focused education and training, innovative support of discovery, and ethical community engagement, the collaborative partners of the Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute rapidly and efficiently translate scientific discoveries to impact all populations of the Atlanta community and beyond.
Introduction
The Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute (ACTSI) is an inter-institutional magnet that concentrates basic, translational, and clinical investigators, community clinicians, professional societies, and industry collaborators in dynamic clinical and translational research projects. Emory has engaged two of its close academic partners in metropolitan Atlanta - Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) and Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) - to form the ACTSI. This partnership, a strategic multi-institutional alliance, offers compelling, unique and synergistic advantages.
Emory is a national leader in healthcare and biomedical research as well as outstanding training and education in clinical and translational research; Georgia Tech is a national leader in biomedical engineering and the application of innovative systems engineering to health care solutions; MSM is a leading black institution that addresses health disparities through successful community engagement programs and serves as a pipeline for training minority investigators. These institutions extend their current partnerships in healthcare, education, and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research to synergize the ACTSI.
Created in 2007 as one of a national consortium striving to improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country. The consortium, funded through the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health’s Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA), shares a common vision to translate laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients, engage communities in clinical research efforts, and train the next generation of clinical investigators.
