A Tragic Accident!

Tab

As you all know, Monty has left a rather conspicuous comment on Twitter about a certain Dev Diary. I regret to inform that it will have to be held until next week, on the 6th September 2009.

May we please give a minute of silence to our fallen comrade, Monty. And also some respect for our friend, Stieffers. A drunken Monty has recently crashed his bicycle into stieffers house, promptly setting off an unstoppable blaze.

Unfortunately Monty will be out for a week, unable to create his masterful dev diary. Stieffers is in charge of the investigation, but we aren't expecting any suspects soon since he did it.

Engineers, cease your dueling.

Tab

Today marks the close of SourceForts first 1v1 tournament. 28 members of the community joined up to show that SF still has it's competitive spark, but now only one stands victorious. Congratulations to nait0r who beat entRo, Syphos, waters and kanroook on his way to the final in which he saw off kaidus, myself, in a close 33-31 match.

Final Result

For full cup tree and results see the cup thread.

With engineers done and dusted, we're now looking forward to a 2v2 competition (possibly with forts and flags?), the rules of which are still to be determined. A big thanks to kanroook for organising these competitions, it just goes to show that even northerners can be useful.

Howdy Cowboy

Tab

I'd like to formally welcome Lewis "Powerofthecowboy" Sanderson to the development team as our latest concept artist. Hopefully we'll post up some of his official work shortly, however for now I'll let his application task do the talking. His brief was simply to create a moderately heavy robot, the design was left completely up to him and we told him to go crazy.

He also sent us this as part of his original application:

Spare a penny, sir?

Hello all!

We're currently gearing up for two big events, firstly we're getting ever closer to the start of internal alpha testing, when we can really start to mold and shape the gameplay into something engaging and dynamic! It's really exciting to see the game start to take shape and evolve into something that's fun to play and so we'll be making sure to keep you updated on progress. Secondly the website is starting to come together ready for a launch soon, more information on that will be posted here as it comes in.

Twitter
Just a little reminder to all of you to check out our Twitter feed and make sure to follow us if you're a user. We update there a lot more frequently than we do here, so it's a great way to stay up to date with the latest development news.

Staff
Stubby and Kohan are two recent additions to our team. Stubby is noted for producing palmtrees out of displacements (no, really) and for being an all round solid level designer. Kohan needs no introduction on these forums. So he isn't getting one. He is programming though. I suppose that is an introduction of sorts. Blast.

Media
We've also got a little present for you all in the form of a fantastic piece of reference art (used specifically for getting a feel for the geometry) from Ccarcia3. I should preface this with a note that this was her invention and not based on a particular brief from us. This is not necessarily reflective of the game's art style, it's merely a possibility for a lighter class. Take a look!

I've been working away on our new website for a couple of weeks now and it's really starting to take shape. I'm currently preparing some frameworks ready for integrating the game with our player management and statistics systems and developing with deeper integration with the new forums in mind. We should have some really nice new features for you all to play with when we launch the new site!

On that note we'd be incredibly grateful if you could spare a small amount of change to help towards our costs, we're currently investing in a new hosting solution which should be a lot more robust and less error prone than our current system (I receive a couple of thousand database connection error alerts a week), providing a much improved forum experience and allowing us to easily scale up for the launch. Any extra donations over our target will be put towards the ongoing costs of development and testing.

We have just over 200 [$330] to raise in order to keep things running smoothly and so any amount is greatly appreciated!

Anyone donating over 5 [$8] will receive a special supporter status on the forum and in game (on release!).

Anyone donating over 15 [$25] will receive the above, along with a mention in the credits and access to a preview version of the game prior to launch!

Have a good weekend!

PS: I'm still working through the email backlog, but I've noticed some from a couple of you. I'll get round to answering them as soon as possible!

PPS: We've just received a fantastic looking application from a concept artist, so watch this spot for more information on that!

PPPS: Any spelling or grammar mistakes, blame Stieffers. I haven't slept since Monday. Not that it's his fault. Hm.

Email and Apologies

Tab

Just a quick note that we've had some issues with email and have a backlog of several months. I did wonder why things had gone a bit quiet!

I'm currently sorting through just under 10'000 messages and separating the spam out from your emails, so you may get a belated reply if you emailed previously.

Again, my apologies for this if you have emailed us and not received a reply. We are up and running again now, so feel free to contact us via the usual address, info@sourcefortsmod.com.

Follow SourceForts on Twitter!

Tab

In our continuing effort to better connect with the community, the SF Team has created a Twitter account! We'll be posting small updates on there when we can - that way, we don't have to create a whole news post when we want to share our progress. Who knows, maybe there will even be a screenshot or two!

You can follow us at twitter.com/sourceforts, or just click the image below.

NB: Since there will be more than one person posting updates, we'll be signing each update. Here are a few examples of our signatures:

-sn for Snuffy
-oj for Oddjob
-dr for Draken

SourceForts Reshuffle

Tab

SourceForts has once again had a reshuffle of priorities. 1.9.5 in its current state has been cancelled. However fear not SourceForts will soon release the final of the 1.9.x series fixing one serious bug along with updates for most maps texture fixes, along with a few new textures and maps.

A sneak preview of grassy being remade to be included in Sourceforts 1.9.4.2

Just a Quickie

Tab

Slice, our resident modeler, is working on a SourceForts v1.9.5. Nothing official yet, but it will hopefully contain some new content. So sit tight.
