That silly bug.

Just so everyone understands before they ask on the forums:

Sourceforts will NOT function on the ATi promotional HL2: Deathmatch offer

Nor will any half life 2 mod. In order to play mods, you need to have a paid version of any Source game that includes Source SDK base - Half life 2 SP or Half life 2 DM (the purchased version) include this, and with them you will be able to play all multiplayer Source mods.

New Official Map!

Tab

A new map has been released. It is completely new is not a reproduction in any way what-so-ever. It is sf_valley_200. Please download it and enjoy it because I spent many hours laboring over it. It fixes a number of problems that were reported with the original valley; including, but not limited to, the lack of optimizations, the terribly small no freeze zone, and the overall "did a 12 year old make this " atmosphere of the map.

Community ventures

Tab

It's rare for something totally-not SF related to surface on the front page, but recently forum member and betatester Nocashvalue has set up a little website with aims to get as many users as possible as quickly as possible.

Thus, let's go SF community, and make the Happy Toast Society go viral!

Spread away. Also, Digg the site to hell!

Edit: You can now Digg the website HERE! DO IT FOR THE LULZ!

And once more for google: the Happy Toast Society

SF Betateam selected

Tab

It pleases us to announce that we have now selected our beta team for the 1.9.3 release. If you were an applicant who hasn't been informed, it doesn't necessarily mean you have lost your chance... we will keep your application on file and replace and hire new beta testers as needed.

Currently we have selected 32 play testers, and in the next few weeks we will be ramping up development and play testing for 1.9.3 to full scale in order to get the patch finished and ready as soon as possible. We can't wait to see you in game!

SF Betatesting application begins!

Tab

I am pleased to announce that we are now going to be accepting beta testing applications for SF 1.9.3! All current beta testers will have to reapply to insure that you suit our new beta testing conditions. We need 20-40 dedicated SF players with varying levels of skill and familiarity with the game to play test both casual play and competitive level play for our final releases. As well as to preform intermediate feature play tests for new game play mechanics we want to evaluate for future inclusion.

Please mail your beta testing application to our official beta testing email address,

On your application answer the following questions:

Name (firstname [alias] lastname):
SteamID (that will be used for play testing):
Age:

How often would you be available for play testing?:

What SF communities have you belonged to in the past?:

What is your current SF clan? (if applicable):

What is your past SF clanning experience? (if applicable):

What is your past Gaming competitive experience? (if applicable):

Do you have any past play testing experience? (if so, where?):

If you were to describe your familiarity with the source engine how well would you say you are acquainted with it? (Do you understand how bhopping works, physics glitches, rates, svars, cvars?):

Please answer accurately, if significant inaccuracies are found it will most likely result in you being blacklisted from testing, or terminated from your position as play tester if found after you've been appointed.

Thanks guys, I hope to see you in testing! :)

Leak Explanation

Tab

A lot of people seem to be confused by the leak and what actually happened. I've created a video to help alleviate this confusion. You should have a better understanding of the leak and what happened after watching this.

The Leak Movie - 30MB Quicktime
The Leak Movie - Youtube (Low quality, hard to read some text. Thanks Concerned Citizen for uploading it.)

Version 1.9.3. Announcement

Tab

Due to certain events and an understanding that has been reached between the SourceForts team and the community, development on v2.0.0 will be halted. Cry not however, in its place v1.9.3 will be paused. We had not planned on releasing a version after v1.9.2, but the game play dynamics have changed and some aspects of the game make for unfair and unfun game play experiences.

This new version will focus on game play balances. The main goal will be to make the game more challenging while still keeping it fun. At the moment many matches are prone to stalemating. The intention of SourceForts was to have an engaging capture the flag experience. This is not entirely possible at the moment because of unbalanced classes and impossible to break-into forts.

Rest assured these problems will be alleviated and we hope to give the community a game that everyone will enjoy. On a different note, FictiousWill, our talented modeler as well as KGtheway2B, our talented texture artist, have both decided to leave the team. They were two dedicated members of the team and will be missed.

...so we called the plumber.

Tab

Well, suffice to say a lot of you have been following the recent goings on. The leak was a call to arms for the developers, and it was a huge indication in unrest with our development methods, and we reacted aggressively instead of assertively trying to fight the leak instead of trying to address the actual issues.

Those responsible for the leak may have had extreme methods, but their point was fair. Shortly, a post will be made with their proposals and ideas for sf2.0, which will be taken into consideration and all forum members will be able to discuss the ideas. This does mean the accounts of those responsible will be unbanned on the forums and following that the IRC.

The wiki will be updated soon to outline what has happened over the last few weeks, but hopefully the wounds caused by this community issue will heal quickly and we'll get back down to making the game we should have been making all along.

Consider this an apology on behalf of the development team;

We're sorry in that we didn't listen as much as we should do, and we made a lot of important decisions without even letting you guys know.

Quote:

Posting on behalf of the original core group of leakers I'd like to inform the community myself in conjunction with Khuskans post. We are under the belief that the development team is moving in a much better direction with a more efficient development process and ethic. In the interests of ensuring newer versions of SourceForts end up as an enjoyable and balanced game, a lot more community and developer interaction will take place allowing future versions of SourceForts to continue the good reputation SourceForts currently maintains.
There will be some changes and interesting events to come, so keep on the forums!

3d Artist Needed

Tab

Aspiring modelers, the SourceForts team is looking for you. We are in need of an additional modeler to help complete character, weapon, and prop models for our upcoming v2.0.0. Much preliminary concept work has already been completed so all we would require from you is the ability to transfer concept sketches to in-engine geometry. In order to be considered, you must provide us with examples of past work, preferably in the form of an online portfolio. A more in-depth outline of our requirements follows:
  • Intimate knowledge of the 3d suite of your choice. (Maya, 3ds Max, XSI, etc.)
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and revise concepts in 3d geometry.
  • An understanding of UVW coordinate space translation in order to unwrap models for material mapping.
  • An understanding of IK/FK and blended animation systems, bone weights and rigs for weapon and character animations.
  • Knowledge of Half-Life 2 in relation to your modeling package. (Complete source file to SMD to MDL compilation)

Applications will stand out if they include:
  • Previous experience with Half-Life 2 and its .smd(phy/ref/anim) and compilation to .mdl format.
  • Experience with Photoshop and texture painting.
  • Full character animation experience.

Please direct all applications and application materials to info@sourcefortsmod.com

Your applications will NOT be considered if they do not link to example work. If you have no example work but would still like to apply, you are welcome to try your hand at modeling one of our concept characters, for example our rocketeer concept.
