About CTSI
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) of Southeast Wisconsin represents a unique and transformative collaboration among the Medical College of Wisconsin, its campus research partners: Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, VA Medical Center, and the Blood Research Institute, and the major academic institutions in southeast Wisconsin: Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. The CTSI is an entirely new and innovative infrastructure to support and advance education, collaboration, and research in clinical and translational science.
The following progressive initiatives are currently underway:
Providing Resources - the CTSI will serve as a nexus for services that support research and collaboration:

Educational Programs - the CTSI will develop and coordinate training opportunities in clinical & translational science:

Training program in clinical and translational research for faculty, staff, collaborators, & community researchers utilizing multiple platforms (seminar series, round tables, didactic courses, on-line learning)

A new graduate degree - MS Clinical & Translational Research

A new K12 Career Development Award, providing salary and research support for researchers from a wide range of fields

A new T32 Predoctoral Program to support clinical research training for PhD students

Promotion of joint degree programs – PhD Population Health, PhD Biostatistics, PhD Functional Imaging, MS Bioinformatics, MS Medical Informatics, MS Health Technology Management

Promotion of joint training programs at undergraduate, graduate, post-doc/fellow levels

Clinical and Translational Pilot Grants for collaborative teams of researchers

Promoting Research Collaboration – the CTSI will support and promote efforts to enhance multidisciplinary collaborations within our institution and with others:

Co-recruitment with MCW Departments of new faculty with clinical and translational research expertise

Translational Research Grand Rounds series – presentation and open discussion of collaborative bench bedside projects

Collaboration consortia with UWM, MU and MSOE to focus on administrative, informatic, educational, and project/program initiatives

Virtual Community with on-line tools for working with investigators internally & externally (web conferencing, group document sharing, virtual white board, instant messaging, etc.)

Formation of a Common IRB – one set of forms, one meeting- for multi site studies with area academic collaborators (MU, UWM, MSOE)

An interface for industry collaborations, based on successful programs with GE Medical, Amgen, IBM

Shared research facilities, staff, other resources

Infrastructure for promoting translational research that includes the community as active partners (physicians, advocacy groups)
