About the Center

Welcome to the Web portal for the UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Our center has three overarching mandates: Education, Research Support, and Facilitation of Novel and Collaborative Approaches to Clinical and Translational Research.

Our educational program is structured to serve the needs of pre- and post-doctoral trainees, junior faculty just beginning their research careers, and established faculty wishing to expand their research into clinical translational areas. In this way, we seek to increase the number of well-trained clinical investigators to address the current and projected critical shortage of these academic scientists.

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science includes five research service cores: Design and Analysis, Clinical Interface, Biomedical Informatics, Regulatory Support , Advocacy and Bioethics Core, and Community Engagement that support investigators in their research endeavors, as well as Research Education and Careers in Health. These cores offer many valuable services, and are structured to facilitate the work of new and current clinical translational investigators. These service functions are provided with a single point of access, either geographic (at our offices located on the second and third floors of the Medical Center Administration Building) or through this website.

By taking advantage of these education and service functions, along with additional innovations, we address our third mandate, to facilitate new collaborations and novel approaches for addressing clinical research problems. As part of this mandate, we sponsor a pilot grant program, a distinguished lecture series, and day-long trans-disciplinary seminars to stimulate innovation and collaboration across the entire UIC campus.

Working toward these three goals in parallel, we hope to truly transform the way clinical translational research is performed at the University of Illinois for the benefit of patients, our investigators, and the entire University. I would like to invite you to explore the many ways that the UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science could be of value to you in achieving your research goals.
