The Rio Grande Regional Water Planning Group (Rio Grande
RWPG) is one of 16 local bodies established under Senate
Bill 1 to coordinate long-range water supply planning by bringing
together stakeholders representing a variety of interests. The Rio Grande
Regional Water Planning Area (also known as "Region M") includes Maverick,
Webb, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron counties.

What's New with Region M
FY 2013 Rio Grande Watermaster Assessment
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has approved a $50 base rate assessment fee on water rights accounts served by the Rio Grande Watermaster for the fiscal year September 2012 - August 2013. The rate does not apply to "no charge" water and certain excess flow permits. The assessments, totaling just under $780,000, will fund Rio Grande Watermaster operations for the year. The fee was approved by TCEQ Commissioners at their September 19th agenda. Details here. FY 2013 assessments will be mailed in September and October.

Notice is hereby given that the Rio Grande Regional Water Planning Group will submit by 5:00 p.m. October 4, 2012, a grant application for financial assistance to the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) on behalf of Region M, to carry out planning activities to develop the 2016 Region M Regional Water Plan in completion of the state's Fourth Cycle (2012 -2016) of Regional Water Planning.
The Rio Grande Regional Water Planning Group (Region M) includes the following counties: Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Maverick, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata Counties.
Copies of the grant application are available for review from the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) or online at www.lrgvdc.org and the Region M website at www.riograndewaterplan.org. Written comments from the public regarding the grant application must be submitted to LRGVDC and TWDB no later than October 16, 2012. Comments can be submitted as follows:

Lower Rio Grande Basin Study
The Bureau of Reclamation and the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority (RGRWA) and its 53 member entities, in collaboration with the Texas Region M Planning Group, Texas Water Development Board, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and International Boundary and Water Commission, are conducting a basin study to evaluate the impacts of climate variability and change on water supply imbalances within an eight county region along the U.S./Mexico border in south Texas.
