The IWP 2012 fall residency begins August 27! Meet our newest group of writers.

In July 2008 a group of Chinese IWP alumni met for dinner in Beijing to celebrate the publication of a new edition of Hualing Engle's 2004 memoir Images of Three Lives. Among those in the photo are Xi Chuan, Xu Hudong, Bi Feiyu, Su Tong, Lou Ye, Chi Zijian, Li Rui, Jiang Yun, Liu Heng, and Mo Yan (2nd from right, 2nd row), winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature.

In 2009, the International Writing Program and the Chinese Writers' Association began a pilot exchange project, the Life of Discovery. The project’s aim is to bring together writers and artists from the United States and from the minority ethnic communities in the western regions of the People's Republic of China.

Summer 2012 marked our fifth Between the Lines Arabic and our first-ever Between the Lines Russia. Young people, aged 16-19, came from all over to learn and grow as writers and to experience Iowa City's unique literary landscape.

The IWP’s Distance Learning Creative Writing Program

As the IWP’s distance learning initiative, the DLCWP seeks to maintain a visible, ongoing, and active IWP presence in the world. Programs are ongoing all year long, deepening existing connections and welcoming new collaborators.
