Weir sat in with my band once back in the '80s. my band opened up for JGB at the Keystone in Berkeley back in the early 80's. He was brief but complimentary on our set.

Weir sat in with my motown band and did "Dancing in the Streets". With Garcia were were an original acoustic band. It was long ago but not so far away.

Re: Sitting In With Jerry |
Hey Jeff--small world: though only a roadie, my HS DEAD coverband in the E Bay got an "audition" at Keystone, Berkeley in 75 (if you begged/pleaded they'd let you open for someone, play 6 tunes, and out...yes, they never called back). We were dying to see someone of note, imagining just the sort of thing you describe (fantasy, I know), but alas, NOBODY showed...can't even recall the band we opened for, but all we got out of it was ogling the gals at the bar who felt sorry for us (lets face it, at the time, a DEAD/NRPS cover band wasn't going to make the big time...HS dances, and that was it).

well, freddie herrera who ran the club was notoriously difficult. pay to play was the rule if you weren't a draw. fun times though.

Coventry Street Fair, '81! Sound and image get better quickly. It was such a kick to find this. Note the Dead at the very tail end ...

We definitely intersected then. I was around there much of the '80s (until '88). We could have a little Cleveland Club here -- I think both Snow and Rain and Pat Kelly are former Clevelanders.

Awesome! I saw Oroboros and those other local jam bands (Janglers anyone?) many times in the late-80s/early 90s.
Anyone remember The Love Cowboys?

More general encouragement. This is great,
>Going Away Party plays gospel songs about reincarnation, maudlin parlor ballads,
waltzes, Western Swing, fake mariachi, and hardcore punk songs that
sound like Ernest Tubb."
Deep Water and Sailin' On + .

Re: Sitting In With Jerry |
thanks JK, i really enjoyed those songs, with the hi-lites (for me) being 'She Traded Me In For Jesus' (great lyrics), 'World On A String' (excellent, and my favorite of the 10 tracks), 'Great Highway' (sweet instrumental), 'Deep River', and 'Sailin' On' ... look forward to hearing more, love the lo-fi quality by the way
