I have exactly the same error message when I submit the audio in the page:
our item is not yet public.
You must pick a collection (and kind of item) now.
Pick one collection below and then hit the submit to the right of it.
When I submit to community audio, I get the error message after the Metadata editor for OuebeMusique15Mai2011:
Unknown err: mkdir(): Permission denied [/usr/local/petabox/www/common/ItemDropper.inc:66]

I'm also getting the same error message...
The file uploaded fine... here's the file I'm trying to submit
'SRE_Podcast_episode15b'
and this is the error message...

I just re-uploaded my podcast using the "Share" tab in the top right corner of the upload page, rather than using the 'ftp' option (I had been using filezilla to upload)...
The 'share' tab option seems to work... it took a little longer to upload... but it's working... and the metadata page is way more streamlined...
Give it a try!

Nope, it's still happening. I went to CharityHospitalReport1924, clicked "edit item", and after making minor changes (adding date and a few other fields), I click submit and get this message:
No change to derivation rules.
Unknown err: mkdir(): Permission denied [/usr/local/petabox/www/common/ItemDropper.inc:66]
An error has occurred. Please post to the forums.

I'm still perplexed. I just made a metadata change with no problems. (I made the link in your description a hot link. I can remove that if you like). So everything seems to be working. What specifically were you trying to change?

This involved me using the Metadata Editor > Change the Information. I made a very minor change to some text to perform this test in my Description field HTML. No Problems. This is an Audio Item, originally created and uploaded on April 7, 2011.

I uploaded a logo image and got it to appear in the Item's logo area. Then, in the Metadata Editor, I added some info to the txt field for the image's description. 2 edits, and no problems. This is an Audio Item. I originally created this item for
Chicago Independent Media Center and uploaded it on April 29, 2011.
I'm running Win XP, Firefox browser. I hope this helps. I couldn't find anything wrong when I made all these changes in some of my Items.
• Yesterday was the brief Search Engine outage. That was fixed quickly. Today, when I submit my queries to The Archive's Search Engine, I get Search Results coming back to my browser from The Archive at speeds that are smoking fast.

It just started working. I was once again able to save changes I made in the Metadata Editor for this item of mine.

I was trying to edit the following fields:
date
Subject (removing the semicolon between "New Orleans" and "LA" and replacing with a comma)
Publisher
Language
Coverage
Just tried again from another machine, logged in ok but still getting the same message.

It's hapenning to me this morning too. I uploaded two albums this morning and everytime I try to get to the details page I'm asked again to pick a collection and to type a title, creator name, etc. When I submit the changes I get
"No change to derivation rules.
Unknown err: mkdir(): Permission denied [/usr/local/petabox/www/common/ItemDropper.inc:66]
An error has occurred. Please post to the forums."
The two items I uploaded are
