Sure anyone can Google Books to IA. Just download the PDF from Google and upload it to IA. I've done a few myself. It's a good idea since Google is unreliable, public domain books disappear or become pay-for-view. Unlike Internet Archive Google is not a library but more a commercial book store.

Ok, of course I know this.
But I notice that Google books are normally added in a specific way, which I explained in the first post.

I wanted to know if there is a way to add a book like that.

you can create a unique identifier that follows that sceme or any identifier you prefer. if you think a book should be moved to a specific collection you would need to request that once the book is uploaded and the item created.

My question was probably inadequately formulated.
Normally there is a simple link to the PDF.
But for Google books there is a "PDF (Google.com)" link.
How do you do this?

And what is user "tpb" who seems to be uploading all Google books?

Maybe Jeff knows more but I think "tpb" was a script run by someone who worked/volunteers at Internet Archive perhaps unofficially but with access to create files.

Looking at the metadata file for one of the tpb books:

http://ia700305.us.archive.org/13/items/tatiansdiatessa02unkngoog/tatiansdiatessa02unkngoog_meta.xml

You could try to mirror the same, create the same "scanner" "sponser" and "source" fields, and see if that triggers the creation of the Google Books link. There's also a "repub_state" field that might be related.

Why would you want to put a link to google.com in the book metadata; this only causes problems. All one has to do is to cite where the images came from and that is all and is legally sufficient.

Ok, I thought that Google books are treated differently here and wanted to conform to the rules.
So, I just upload them as any other book and this is ok?
No legal problems?

He just said "legally sufficient".

Also, adding links back to Google via the source field are recommended and it won't cause problems.

Yes, we had several people ask where the PDF was because of this, even though it is under the http directory, it just causes misunderstandings, they should be able to download the PDF file directly from the link area and not have to go to Google's web site. I have put up several Google books usually at the request of someone who could not download the work in their country.

THE GREEK TEXT
WITH
INTRODUCTION, NOTES, AND INDICES
BY
ALAN HUGH M'NEILE, D.D.

archive does not have this book and the google text part is incomplete as w. most works. I can usually get the missing pages from IA. I noticed user tpb uploads some google works and creates new text files. so how can I get IA to create a new text file.

Hi, Gerry

please, could you upload the volumes of the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Reasearch numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16? In archive.org I could find only the volumes 1, 2, 7, 14, 15. I am from Brazil, and I can't access Google Books to do this.
