Re: pdf download not working |
Seems to be working for me at the moment. Right-click and "save as".

Re: pdf download not working |
Right-click and "save as" does work with Firefox but clicking on the PDF links does not.
Internet Explorer is not opening "Read Online" or PDFs.
Believe it's a problem with IA but they're not talking yet.
Brewster answered a similar problem this way:
"It seems it has to do with the "linearization" flag in the PDF's we produce, which allow for streaming. IE tries to take advantage of the streaming feature, but it does not work for some reason.
So we have forced download of the PDF on windows/IE."

Re: pdf download not working |
I have been having a intermittent fault for some weeks with left clicking on URLs, nothing happens so been right clicking and "open in new tab"
Some months ago I had the same issue, before it fixed itself.
And its not just IA that is at fault, its other sites too, I wonder if it is unsynchronised updating and improving, that some sites are late updating their server, some browsers updating earlier than others.
After all, there does not seem to be one world wide coordinating body to ensure all servers/browsers change at the same time.

Re: pdf download not working |
Copied and pasted down below is from a concurrent thread, he fixed his issue by downloading Firefox.
Anyway the point I am making is that the symbol mentioned is indicative of a script (or html) file error, "done but with errors"
The script file comes from the IA, and is interpreted by the browser you use.
So either the IA just rewrote part of their script (just before a long holiday?)(then it would badly affect all browsers) or the browser has had a update of its script interpreter and fails to understand the IA script correctly.
Last Tuesday was the Microsoft monthly software update day, which might have changed IE's script interpretation code, and created problems.
Microsoft is a law onto itself, the only permanent fix is the IA creating a bullet proof script, however, the IA is often slow to react, if not a law onto themselves too.

Re: pdf download not working |
Hello,
This does not seem to be an IE issue - I'm using Chrome and am experiencing the same problem as with IE: a blank screen with the URL of the PDF appearing in the address line. It seems to be a problem internal to IA, as I am having no difficulty in viewing or downloading PDFs from other sites with either Chrome or IE.

Re: pdf download not working |
I've tried with IE8, Chrome and Firefox. No pdf will download. All I get when right clicking is the option to save as HTML, so something seems to have happened to IA pdf links.

Re: pdf download not working |
right-click-download only works from the HTTP sub-menu.

Thanks for that information. Will the normal right-click function be restored shortly?

Re: pdf download not working |
I don't think right-click ever worked for me (Firefox) from the main work page. That is streaming mode - it only downloads enough data to fill a screen or two. For download/save of the full file, you have to do into the HTTP menu.

Re: pdf download not working |
Hmm, seems a bit odd. I've always used right-click before using IE8 without any problem, and the IA FAQ says to use right-click as well. Anyway , the HTTP menu works fine, so I'm happy enough.

Re: pdf download not working |
Hello Peter,
I've tested your links (in Chrome) and none of them works.
From your description, the fault seems to be intermittent or local (perhaps, as you say, to just one server), but I haven't managed to get it to work at all - maybe you just spend more time working on/with IA and have 'struck lucky' ...
This is one of the PDFs I was trying to link to when I first noticed the problem:

Re: pdf download not working |
Yes,
http://www.archive.org/download/oppiancolluthust00oppiuoft/oppiancolluthust00oppiuoft.pdfdownloaded okay.
1, be aware I am in New Zealand (time zones, affecting servers?)
2, I use Fire Fox 3.6.3 (maybe its version issues?)
3, I use Win XP (I can test on Ubuntu tomorrow)
4, And Avast! AV. (Don't think that makes a difference)
And its almost midnight (Sunday), so I wont be on line much longer. Good night

Re: pdf download not working |
http://www.archive.org/details/almansor5my latest on RSS, from details page, read on line works, but could do nothing with the PDF, so did the right click successfully from the html page.
It seems to be still deriving other formats when I assessed it.
I wonder if its my down-loader add on in FF that makes a difference?
"Custom Download Manager"
For what its worth, I got "Microphone Net Framework Assistant" FF Add-on too, which reports to servers the version of "net framework" I have installed, once, a while ago, I believed that fixed something in IA, albeit, something else I did might have been the fix.
