Yeah I've got the same problem. My guess is there is a bad/corrupt record added recently that is causing the search to crash. You can get around it by searching on a specific date. In the search field:
publicdate:2007-12-02
shows all the books added Dec 2nd. If you happen to search on a day that returns the error, that is where the corrupt record is.

I doubt above, because this problem has been ongoing for over two weeks now. I feel like saying "Vacation is over, get your hiney going to fix this site!" I have been recommending this site to tons of people and not having it work right ever since. Try getting browse on authors names or titles, you get the same error. Unless you have bookmarked a book - nothing else seems to work!

Yeah you may be right.
I've been adding author searches to Wikipedia articles like:
==External links==
*Works by Robert Louis Stevenson at Internet Archive
*Works by Robert Louis Stevenson at Project Gutenberg
*Works by Robert Louis Stevenson at Google Books
etc..
..and people have been removing Internet Archive because the searches don't work! Kind of a waste of time. I know these Wikipedia links create a lot of traffic because I can see the download counters spike. Feels like a waste of my time and efforts.
