obama. both democrats. the democratic party has actually been the better of the two parties when it comes to the deficit. over the last 40 years, it's democratic presidents who have been the most fiscally responsible when it comes to the deficit. and republican presidents have been the most fiscally wrereckl. somehow republicans have successfully cultivated this myth that they are the ones they should trust if you're worried about the debt and the deficit. even though voters trust barack obama on every other issue, they still trust mitt romney more when it comes to the deficit. they have great faith in mitt romney's deficit hawkishness. even if the studies are just stuff written on a bathroom wall. it's factually hilarious given that mitt romney is proposing this in terms of what we spend on the military. these are current levels of military spending. our biggest discretionary spending. that's what he's proposing to do. he's proposing adding $2 trillion extra in spending just on the military and he's proposing bringing in $5 trillion fewer in revenue in order to pay for that. bar

next week. >> that is your 5@5:00. >>> for months president obama has touted both the death of osama bin laden and the idea that al qaeda is on the run. but now is he dropping that while on the campaign trail. peter doocy has a closer look for us. >> good morning patty ann, a big part of president obama's pitch to voters is a reminder that he ordered the raid against osama bin laden and the terrorist organization al qaeda is on the run as a result of his strong foreign policy. here's the president making that pitch last week. on october 1st 19 you said four years ago i told you we would end the war in iraq and i did. i said we would end the war in afghanistan and we are. i said we would refocus on the people responsible for 9-11 they are on the run but osama bin laden is dead. the part from al qaeda is on the run was missing from the speeches on the campaign trail yesterday just a day after republican opponent called him out for misrepresenting the time line of when he told the american people about the attack on u.s. consulate in benghazi was a terrorist attack and said it was a spo

the election results. remember, president obama won fairly significant vote both popular and electoral, and he had some of the same legitimacy problems. president bush lost the popular vote but managed to govern i think relatively effectively. i don't think there was a legitimacy problem for very long. look, i think you're staring at a very potentially likely scenario of mitt romney carrying the popular vote and losing the electoral vote. if you believe gallup, and i have to believe gallup, but if he's by 7 in the gallup poll, there's a chance he will win the popular vote but also a fairly good chance. those scenarios, by the way, i wouldn't concede colorado and virginia for the obama campaign, not in a minute. so i think there's a very legitimate chance that romney wins the popular vote, loses the electoral vote. remember, if john kerry switched 70,000 votes, he could have carried -- in ohio he would have kaerd the electoral college and yet infished 3 million votes behind george bush. >> nate silver has an interesting breakdown why gallup is now an outlier and why we don't need to pay attenti

'll hear the liar charge from both tonight. i think the challenge for obama is a trap he fell into and actually enjoys. he prefers in these debates to talk policy and to sort of talk -- try and talk on the merits as if you're in sort of a college class debating which is the best policy going forward. he needs to sort of play the game more. and i think one of the big mistakes he made in the first debate, he doesn't like the gamesmanship, the theater of the debate stage. but he has to embrace it. he has no choice. because he has to show the body language he declined to show in the last debate and i think that will be the real challenge for him. it's not just whether he appears negative or mean. it's whether he can play the game of the debate as opposed to just talking the policy. because if he talks the policy and romney is playing the game and delivering the zingers and memorized one liner, he'll come out on the short end again, obama whether. >> sty whether. >> how does he bring up the 47%? >> i feel like what michael said. answers question and pivot to what he wants to talk a
