. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san francisco. cate, the suspect driver apparently is still on the loose. >> reporter: our sources say the suspected driver was an -- or is an oakland rapper with gang ties. that's according to alameda county court paperwork that our source saw in the car. but pd wouldn't confirm it. they say the investigation is still ongoing. it started as a minor traffic violation and ended in a dramatic collision. >> police are doing their job pulling this person over. the suspect chose to fire at officers and the suspect chose to flee from the scene and create this -- this mess. >> reporter: at 2 a.m., san francisco police department tried to pull over a cadillac for a broken license plate but officers got more than they bargained for. >> the vehicle was pulling over at the area of he feel list and laguna -- of ellis and laguna street. at that time shots were fired from the vehicle and the vehicle fled southbound on laguna. >> reporter: by the time officers caught up with the car it had t-boned into a taxicab a few blocks away. the two male suspects tried

for repairs and earthquake retrofitting and here's a live look. cbs 5 reporter don knapp is at the bridge with an update. >>> the bridge is on schedule. these people who are driving around this part of the bay area some of them stuck in traffic will have this bridge back when they need it monday morning. take a look behind me. they are seeing work on the toll plaza here. it's a great time to get everything done so they are doing a lot of work out on the bridge doing work with wiring and telephone poles and painting. let's take a look at what's going on. there are twelve 30-foot sections to replacing. crews have removed six old ones and installed three new ones. they are putting a fourth in place. it stems from a crack in a support structure on the bridge two years ago. >> what happened was two years ago we discovered a crack in a wishbone shaped girther under the bridge. it was part of the seismic retrofit in the late '90s so we repaired it bolted steel plates to the top and bottom of the girder but we knew we wanted more of an improvement than that. >> reporter: since the bridge was slat

justice. live in oakland,da lin, cbs 5. >>> a terror plot to blow up the federal reserve city in new york city was foiled. a 21-year-old man with al qaeda ties was arrested outside the building blocks from the world trade center site. the fbi says that the man parked a van filled with what he believed were explosives outside the building. he used a cell phone to try to detonate the van but the bombs were fake and were set up by undercover agents posing as the suspect's partners. last month he allegedly told an undercover agent he hoped the attack would stop the presidential election. >>> it was the presidential debate like any we have seen before. last night, both candidates came out swinging and things intensified when the benghazi attack was brought up. >> you said in the rose garden the day after the attack it was an act of terror. it was not a spontaneous demonstration. is that what you're saying? >> please proceed, governor. >> i want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in benghazi an act of terror. >> get the tra

by cbs this is the "cbs evening news" with scott pelley. >>pelley: good evening, the boy scouts of america kept files for decades on scout leaders and volunteers who were suspected of sexually abusing boys. scoutouts kept the files to prevent molesters from returning to the organization, but often did did not share what they what with police and prosecutors. the documents paint a picture of serial cover-ups to protect the name of the boy scouts of america. because of a lawsuit, oregon's supreme court ordered the documents released. they became public today and anna werner has our story. >> reporter: the 1200 documents cover incidents from 1965 to 1985. they describe actual or suspected sexual abuse by volunteers or troop leaders. ndhn anderson says he was alested by a scout master beginning in 1976 when he was when happes happened 35 years ago and i did not understand how it affected my behavior. i would say i'm fine. when i first went into counseling, the counselor said how are you dealing with this? i said i'm fine. >> reporter: what did you figure ut later? >> that i wasn't.

. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran has more on the connection to a bay area rapper and she joins us with the latest. cate. >> reporter: frank, michelle, that is right. our sources tell us that the driver that the police are looking for is an oakland rapper with possibly gang ties. that's just what we're learning a few moments ago. we have video of that crash. so you can see right now the whole thing started because of a minor traffic violation. officers say that they tried to pull over a car because of a broken license plate. they say it started around 2 a.m. a few blocks from where we are at ellis and laguna. that's where officers flashed their lights at the suspects and police say the car appeared to pull over and then took off then quickly stopped and officers heard shots fired and stopped their car. the suspects' car then sped away. by the time police caught up to them the suspect car crashed into a cab and after that crash, they say that the suspects took off. >> don't know why they ran, maybe because they had a gun in a car? they could be wanted. we don't know who the driver i

it suspicious. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the home in castro valley where a criminal investigation is now under way. anne. >> reporter: yeah, we know that there was a fire at the house here behind me in castro valley. there is a body in the house but no other details at this point. the fire was relatively small. we can't even see any fire damage from the outside of the house. it was a one alarm fire. as far as the body inside we don't know how that person died. sheriff's deputies expanded the crime scene here on san carlos avenue about a half hour ago. they moved all of us back, all of us reporters, and we're waiting for more information right now. i did speak with a neighbor who says the man who lived in the allows is a retired firefighter from san francisco. and that he lives there with his girlfriend. but again, we don't know whether either of them could be the body that was found inside of this house. we're told that we are going to be getting more information here within the next hour and we'll bring it to you. right now live in castro valley, anne makovec, cbs 5. >>> we're ju
