matters, and i know you put one together every week for bret baier, you can be ahead by seven points in the national poll, but you won't necessarily win the electoral college map, where it counts. >> first of all, the gallup poll's got him up by seven points, but there's margin of error in that thing, first of all. nationally, you're right, greta, it doesn't matter. there's 10, 12 states that these guys are pounding each other away in. you know, when an event like that first debate changes things, think about the 32 states that have never seen an ad, never seen any of candidates unless they stopped for a fundraiser. so they see that big change -- they all watched. it was a huge audience. they decide they're changing. so who cares, though, if five points get lost by obama in california or four points get gained by romney in texas? it matters ohio, virginia, florida, nevada, colorado, iowa, new hampshire. i mean, i may have left one out. wisconsin. those are the states that are going to matter. that's why in these debates, you see each one of them mentioning the mother in ohio that the

as well. so what should we expect in bret baier is the anchor of special report and joins us now. bret, what are you hearing from the two campaigns about how they are getting ready? >> reporter: hey, jon, coming to you today from portsmouth, new hampshire as a firetruck goes by here downtown, beautiful port smith, we'll talk about that in a second. talking to the campaigns, you're hearing the expectation that president obama is going to be more aggressive, that he's going to be more energetic. there is a difficulty a little bit in this format, as you mention it's a town hall so the aggressiveness might be tough to manifest itself if you're dealing with, as you mentioned, questions from these folks in the room. they are technically uncommitted voters. they've gone through this gallop process where they are either undecided, or they have a preference of who they are going to vote for, but they could change their mind, according to gallop. so that's from the obama side. the other side, governor romney, according to his people is looking to capitalize on the first debate and clearly, accor

, that debate happened in nashville, tennessee. bret baier was on earlier and said that he was very upset that he made a mistake and he wanted everyone to know. the president obama has done this. in the real setting with actual town halls, how much of an advantage is that going to war him? >> don't forget that governor romney campaigned hard in new hampshire. he has done many town halls. i can tell you that there is nothing like a presidential town hall in new hampshire, where you were talking to real voters and asking very tough questions. and so i think the governor romney will be well-prepared coming into this. he has done a number of town halls on the campaign trail and i think that he has practiced answering questions from voters. but most importantly, he has a great team, especially with rob portman, who has been, by all accounts, giving him the right skills. megyn: is there anything you are concerned about with respect to governor romney tonight? >> i think that the test will be how he connects with voters. that has been the big question mark that people have had. the preconceived
