romney's job, it's all about what is happening right here in america. today, the president said, mitt romney is trying to forget how his economic policies benefit the very rich like the owners of this factory. >> he's forgetting what his own positions are. and he's betting that you will, too. i mean, he's changing up so much and back tracking and sidestepping. we've got to -- we've got to name this condition that he's going through. i think -- i think it's called romnesia. that's what it's called. if you come down with a case of romnesia and you can't seem to remember the policies that are still on your website or the promises you made over the six years you've been running for president, here's the good news. obama care covers pre-existing conditions. we can fix you up. we've got a cure. we can make you well, virginia. >> this disease is contagious. vice president joe biden says paul ryan, oh, he's come down with it. >> ryan's saying his budget doesn't decimate medicare and medicaid and eviscerate education. it's a little like mitt romney standing in an unemployment line in florida a

romney's economy. the story of the romney economy can be told with 200 jobs here in this small town of illinois, freeport. now, it's important to know, i think how all of this happened. we're going to tell that story tonight. it's important to understand the plea coming from the community to stop it. this is your new america, unless you do something about it. we came here to broadcast outside the sensata auto parts plant here in freeport. sensata closed the doors of the plant for the entire weekend. the entrances are barricaded. workers were told not to report. none of these workers will report to the factory when it closes in december. those jobs, they're headed a long way away. a place called china. we have a huge conversation going on in this country right now about jobs. the guy who wants to take the president of the united states' job, barack obama, mitt romney's job, it's all about what is happening right here in america. today, the president said, mitt romney is trying to forget how his economic policies benefit the very rich like the owners of this factory. >> he's forgettin

, the "washington post" today gave four pinocchio's to mitt romney's jobs plan. and i'm sure the president or candy crowley will say mr. romney what about the fact that your 12 million job claim has been ruled to be a complete lie? >> eliot: it is only the follow up question that actually pierces the talking point. until you can be confronted it is like cross examination. you have to force either candidate to say, wait a minute the numbers simply don't add up. and candy can do that. >> john: a few weeks ago david gregory caught a world of grief, but if you looked on twitter it was completely decided. >> jennifer: he must have done a good job then. >> john: so me it says he did a good job if he alienated both sides that much. >> eliot: does the president utter the phase 47%? >> jennifer: absolutely. >> eliot: how does he use it to characterize an entire world view that mitt romney unfortunately has embodied. >> jennifer: i think he characterizes it by showing that this is what the man says behind closed doors. therefore, that's the real mitt romney. what he is saying to y

romney's job plan and changing positions. >> i mean he is changing up so much and backtracking and side- stepping. we have got -- we -- we have got -- we have got to name this condition that he is going through. i think -- i think it is called rom measura. >> governor romney is cam page in florida where he will speak at a rally tonight in daytona beach. >> don't be surprised if the president mentioned this evening the monthly jobs report where there was a slight improvement in the numbers. he knows how to seize the moment, this president, and already has a compelling new campaign slogan, you are better off now than you were 4 weeks ago. >> last night governor romney and the president traded barbs during a fundraiser in new york city. they attended the 67th annual alfred smith foundation dinner, a lighthearted bipartisan political tradition which raises funds for them there. >>> starting this weekend residents in the south bay will have to take extra steps to make local calls. ann reuben is live to tell us how they are preparing for it. >> reporter: there has been an ad campaign warnin

, rachel. the romney campaign has been making a very specific claim about jobs. they say he would create 12 million jobs during his first term. at "the washington post," my colleague asked for the numbers to back that up, and what he got back from them was actually a little hilarious. the romney campaign referenced one study that said a tax plan like mitt romney's could create 7 million jobs. the only problem was that study was looking over ten years, not four, and the study also assumed that romney's tax plan would be fully paid for on the front end and the economy would be at full unemployment, we would be full of jobs, when the tax plan was put into place. that is not likely in a romney first term. the romney campaign also says 3 million of the jobs will be energy remitted. they cited this study from citigroup, but that study covers eight years, not the four romney is promising for his results, and the study wasn't evaluating any of mr. romney's policies at all. it was actually looking at current trends and current policies, which is to say president obama's policies. finally, the romney

. romney has no plan. he said he's going to generate 12 million jobs. conservative economists say, no, it's only 2 million. he says he's got a five-point plan to do this. you look under the hood, there's nothing there. he's going to give $5 trillion -- excuse me, he's going to cut $5 trillion or cut taxes, whatever it is. middle class people are going to pay for that. this is a hocus pocus campaign, al, that's all it is, hocus pocus. the president needs to call him on that and then say what he would do otherwise. what people are looking for in this country is leadership. mitt romney got away with pretending he was the leader the last time. he won't get away with it tonight. >> governor howard dean, thank you for your time tonight. >> thanks a lot, al. >> joining me here in studio is krystal ball and steve kornacki. thank you for joining me tonight. >> thank you, reverend. >> steve, who has the bigger challenge tonight between the president and former governor romney? >> i think it's obama. it clearly is. we have seen a sustained bounce for mitt romney after the first debate. a bigger boun

starting with jobs and the auto industry bailout. >> obama: when governor romney said that we should let we're going to bet on american workers american auto industry, and it has come surging back. >> romney: that's precisely what i recommended and what happened. >> obama: candy, what governor romney said simply isn't true. he wanted to take them into bankruptcy without providing them any way to stay open, and we would have lost a million jobs. >> eliot: the president has hammered romney on the centerpiece of his campaign, his plan to cut taxes across the board to restore the economy. >> obama: we haven't heard from the governor any specifics beyond big bird and eliminating funding for planned parenthood in terms of how he pays for that. >> eliot: romney is taking his lumps on the issue of equal pay for women. last night the former massachusetts governor said he wanted women hired for top positions before he took office. >> romney: we could a took a concerted effort to find women who had the backgrounds to be qualified to be members of our cabinet. i went to a number women's groups can y

actually felt a chill when i heard it read when mitt romney said their job, their job could be at risk. there's nothing illegal about that but, of course, it is illegal to tell an employee, you either vote for candidate x or you're fired. that does cross the line. but when you go up to the line and i've talked to lawyers this afternoon about this, when they say, it will be best for your job, our industry, our firm if x wins instead of y, unfortunately that's legal and the coercion dynamics within the workplace are such that to say it's improper is actually way too polite. the power dynamics at play here are, i think, really quite dark and i'll say one further thing. as that slide you showed earlier suggested, you know, workers have actually suffered a lot from the fact that the benefits of growth have aeluded them for decades. >> and i would think that there is a big difference between someone campaigning, a candidate or surrogate saying this will help your jobs and your employers saying that to you. how do you get around the inference, dana, when an employer is talking to his employee

from now, 50 years and 100 years from now. >> government does not create jobs. >> governor romney, i want to introduce you to barry green because he'll have the last question to you first. >> hi, barry. >> hi, governor. i think this is a tough question. each of you, what do you believe is the biggest misperception that the american people have about you as a man and a candidate, using specific examples, can you take this opportunity to debunk that and set uson straight. >> thank you. and that's an opportunity for me and i appreciate it. in the nature of a campaign, it seems that some campaigns are focused on attacking a person rather than prescribing their own future and the things they'd like to do. in the course of that, i think the president's campaign has tried to characterize me as someone who's very different than who i am. i care about 100% of the people. i want 100% of the american people to have a bright and prosperous future. i care about our kids. i spent my life in the private sector, not in government. i'm a guy who wants to help with the experience i have, the american

he's promising. they want details on romney's tax codes. how will the president create jobs? another achievement of romney was that he exposed the president's lack of leadership. he says, where's the plan to fix entitlements? that's a theme he needs to hit on in the next debates in the days to come. >> when we come back, the president may have been more spirited in this week's debate, but not more specific. when will he play out his agenda for the next four years? >> i think it's interesting that the president still doesn't hav. don't you think it's time for hip to finally put together a vision for what he would do ins next four years if he were elected? he has to come up with that over this weekend, because there's only one debate left on monday. uh, i'm in a timeout because apparently riding the dog like it's a small horse is frowned upon in this establishment! luckily though, ya know, i conceal this bad boy underneath my blanket just so i can get on e-trade. check my investment portfolio, research stocks... wait, why are you taking... oh, i see...solitary. just a man and his thoug

debate. mitt romney's job is a little bit easier tonight. he's got expectations going his way. connect, and that's a little bit easier to do when you're getting direct questions from ordinary citizens. >> you and i both know ordinary citizens, town hall debates always bring surprises. >> absolutely. wild card questions are the norm in these town hall debates. i remember very well back in 1992, a famous guy called ponytail guy got up and asked all the candidates what they would do again to take care of them, but also he chastised them about negative campaigning and that's the other thing that happens here. the candidates may want to engage generally those voters in the room don't like that all that much. >> all right, george, well, we will be right here and hope you will be too tonight as george, i, the entire political team are here as president obama and governor romney take that stage one on one, the candidates debate, 9:00 p.m. eastern, 6:00 pacific. >>> and one of the questions sure to come up tonight, did intelligence failures, security mistakes here at home cost four americans th

already on the books. at an obama rally in ohio, even "the boss" chimed in what do women want? mitt romney says jobs. >> this president's office has failed women, they suffered in terms of getting jobs. >> reporter: trying to make up for the "binder of women" stumble in the debate, the romney campaign was in iowa. >> and i know that governor romney would be that type of person to work across the aisle. >> reporter: the president counters that he would oppose the law. permitting more women to sue for equal pay. >> i have two daughters, i want to make sure they get paid the same as somebody's sons for doing the same job. >> reporter: both campaigns also showed new ads on abortion. obama is reminding people what mitt romney said before the nomination. >> would you sign it, yes or no. >> i would be delighted to sign the bill. >> reporter: romney's ad tries to make him appear more moderate now. >> turns out, romney doesn't oppose contraception, in fact, he thinks it should be an option in cases of rape or to save a mother's life. >> both candidates know who their advocates are. >> this year, it

. >> said romney would do a better job with the economy both sides say they're caught one. >> president obama spent exactly know, all speaking about any specific plans for a second term. >> a few cnn polls found that 46 percent of voters who watched last night's presidential debate said the president won the showdown. so turning the tables compare to the first debate 39 percent said they thought republican nominee rick romney thdid a better job. the polling or flecks the views of voters who watched the debate not the views of all americans. >> cons of people came out to temple nightclub to support the president every time the president interrupted a challenge people gave a rousing cheer. many said the president to redeem himself in the second debate. >> he was fired up and he seems to be doing that- holding romney accountable to holding the truth. >> i think he brought a little bit more emotion and passion to the bay. he is hitting on a heart on his false truth. >> no word on just how many people were at last the rest of it last time the club said about 600 people packed that in you. >>

to do a good job in dealing with this. >> romney administration? >> well, i am anticipating november 6th. the romney campaign has to do a good job in dealing with this. they can't let the president and his campaign blurry that narrative. >> they are all out there spinning like a top. the word terrorism was in there, but they are not talking about benghazi. >> not even terrorism. good point. you are going to correct the record. i need to be careful with you.ot coming up next, we head back toxt las vegas where the focus group of undecided voters are standing by. they dialed some of the key moments of the debate and the results are very interesting. one of the best lines was governor romney saying we don't have to live like this. and then we are joined in this special edition of "hannity." >> i spent my life in the private sector. i know why jobs come and why they go. they are going now because of the policies of this administration. >>> mr. president, have you looked at your pension? >> have i to say -- >> mr. president, have you looked at your pension? >> i don't look at my pension. it i

lost a million jobs. >> eliot: the president has hammered romney on the centerpiece of his campaign, his plan to cut taxes across the board to restore the economy. >> obama: we haven't heard from the governor any specifics beyond big bird and eliminating funding for planned parenthood in terms of how he pays for that. >> eliot: romney is taking his lumps on the issue of equal pay for women. last night the former massachusetts governor said he wanted women hired for top positions before he took office. >> romney: we could a took a concerted effort to find women who had the backgrounds to be qualified to be members of our cabinet. i went to a number of women's groups can you help us find folks, and they brought us binders full of women. >> eliot: but according to the coalition groups at a fill those binders romney told the story backyards. she told the "huffington post" that hiving top-level women was an initiative of women's organizations to make it be something that he had to follow through on. he didn't go out looking for these binders. romney also bled a bit when he dualed with th

jobs, romney i -- probly 10 million jobs from energy policy done right. >> our own neil cavuto heading to one of those swing states on monday for the final presidential debate in bida, be there, at 4:00 p.m. eastern here on fox news, neil will be joined by senator johmccain, florida governor rick scott, former clintopress secretary me mccurry and many, any others. then on fox business, full debate coverage from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. your election, your country, your money. your future. all on the line and no one covers it like neil. before that, neil is going to tell you what this guy is saying, just proved our national debt is now officially a national secity risk. at the bottom of the hour. up next here, who says you can't go home? one in three homeowners expecting not just their adult kids but their parents to move back in with them. sounds like a bad sign for the economy. why is someone he saying it is good for the economy? with the spark cash card from capital one, sven's home security gets the most rewards of any small business credit card! how does this thinwork? oh, i like it!

one i want to build manufacturing jobs in this country again. when governor romney said we should let detroit go bankrupt, i said we're going to work on american workers and american auto industry and it has come surging back. i want to do that in industries not just in detroit but across the country. we change our tax code so we're giving incentives to companies investing here in the united states and creating jobs here. it also means we're helping them and small businesses to export all around the world in new markets. number two we've gotta make sure that we have the best education system in the world and the fact that you're going to college is great. but i want everybody to get a great education. we've worked hard to make sure that student loans are available for folks like you. i want to make sure community colleges are offering slots for workers to be retrained. the jobs of the future. number three, we have to control our own energy. not only oil and natural gas which we've been investing in but also

. what about those long-term unemployed who need a job right now? >> romney: what you're seeing in this country is 23 million people struggling to find a job. and a lot of them, as you say candy have been out of work for a long time. the president's policies have been exercised over the last four years. and they haven't put americans back to work. we have fewer people working today than we had when the president took office. if the unemployment rate was 7.8% when he took rate, it is 7.8% now. but if you calculated that unemployment rate taking back the people who dropped out of the work force, it would be 10.7%. we have not made the progress we need to make to put people back to work. that's why i put in a five-point plan that gets america 12 million new jobs in four years and rising take-home pay. it will help jeremy get a job. it will help people across the country that are unemployed right now. one thing the president said with i want to make sure we understand. he said -- i said we should take detroit bankr

the first debate did more for romney than the second debate did for obama. obama had two jobs to do and he did them both. he had to stop the momentum. he was able to stop the momentum. now we're back tied. the other thing that he had to do and did do was to get the base back exchanged. people were proud to stand up and fact-check -- president obama put fact-checkers out of work because he fact-checked in realtime. >> matt, no question that obama got the democrats engaged again on tuesday night. the flip and the surge among some women voters to mitt romney? >> i think that's the main -- two-thirds of all swing voters in this country are women. 54% of the people who are going to vote are women. women by and large are going to decide this election just like -- >> as they should. as they should. >> but i think the interesting thing about this is, the pattern is so familiar to 2004. president bush had a six-point lead. in the following two debates he didn't win them but got back into the game. as of today, eight years it was 48%-48%. this is all about the base. in my view and the enthusiasm of

than one very possible scenario. plus, the dig. romney is claiming he'll create 12 million jobs if elected president. we add up the numbers in our segment called "the dig." and as we asked earlier, romney's binder full of women comment, a side show or a comment that hit a wrong nerve with women voters? let us know. we'll share your tweets later on in the hour. y for a taste of what's hot? check out the latest collection of snacks from lean cuisine. creamy spinach artichoke dip, crispy garlic chicken spring rolls. they're this season's must-have accessory. lean cuisine. be culinary chic. jobs in this country again. when governor romney said we should let detroit go bankrupt, i said we're going to bet on american workers and american auto industry, and it's come surging back. i want to do that in industries not just in detroit, but all across the country. and that means we change our tax code so we're giving incentives to companies that are investing here in the united states and creating jobs here, it also means we're helping them and small businesses to export all around the world in new markets. number two, we've got to make sure that we have the best education system in the world, and the fact that you're going to college is great, but i want everybody to get a great education. and we've worked hard to make sure that student loans are available for folks like you. but i also want to make sure that community colleges are offering slots for workers to get retrained for the jobs that are out there right now and the jobs of the future. number three, we've got to control our own energy. you know, not only oil and natural gas which we've been investing in, but also we

to our last question. >> ok. we need to create jobs here and both governor romney and i agree, actually, that we should lower our corporate tax rate. it's too high but there's a difference in terms of how we would do it. i want to close loopholes that allow companies to deduct expenses when they move to china, that allow them to profit offshore and not have to get taxed so they have tax advantages offshore -- all those changes in our tax code would make a difference. governor romney actually wants to expand those tax breaks. one of his big ideas when it comes to corporate tax reform would be to say if you invest overseas you make profits overseas, you don't have to pay u.s. taxes but of course if you're a small business or a mom and pop business or a big business starting up here, you've got to pay even the reduced rate governor romney's talking about and it's estimated that will create 800,000 new jobs. the problem is they'll be in china or india or germany. that's not the way we are going to create jobs here. the way we're going to create jobs here is not just to change our tax code b

sure the future is bright. i want to build manufacturing jobs. when romney said detroit should go bankrupt, we invested and it has come surging back. we change our tax code to give incentives to companies in the u.s. and we help them and small businesses export in new markets. we have to make sure we have the best education system in the world. the fact you are going to college is great but i want everyone to have an education. we've worked hard to give student loans and we need to retrain for the jobs out there and for the future. we have to control our own energy. not only oil and natural gas, but make sure we are building the energy source of the future. not just next year, but 20 years from now. so we invest in solar and biofuels. energy-efficient cars. asking the wealthy to pay more so we cnan invest in education like yours. and let's use the moenney we've spent on war the last decade on funding. and your future will be bright and america as well. >> mr. romney, what can you do? we look at a situation where 40% of the unemployed are unemployed for four years or more. what abo

i want to bring up the 12 million jobs promise. romney and you say that his policies, including his tax plan, will help create 250,000 jobs a month for four straight years. that's a grand total of 12 million jobs, and i agree with you, larry summers is a democrat, but he was the treasury secretary, he was president obama's economic sad v -- altd vdviser. here's what he had to say about it. >> there is a strong line of arithmetic by challengers that confuses a goal with a forecast. it's a worthy goal, it's a good thing to strive for. president obama would rather create 4 million jobs, he'd rather create 5 million jobs, he'd rather create 6 million jobs, but there is a difference between a goal and an aspiration and the reasonable forecast. >> so kevin, is 12 million jobs a goal and an as pir ratipirati reasonable forecast? >> i think it's something that would happen if governor romney were elected. i truly believe that. if you look at private sector forecasters, as you know, like moody's and economic advisers and others are already looking forward to higher growth over the next four

that the president won the showdown. 39% mitt romney did the better job. the president's 7-point advantage came among a debate audience that was somewhat more republican than the polls. >>> our decision 2012 team coverage continues. alicia reed was with some bay area republicans tonight as they watched the debate. >> reporter: all eyes and ears were glued to the screen at this republican watch apart. mitt romney vows to create more energy in the u.s. >> part of that is bringing in a pipeline of oil from canada taking advantage of the oil and coal we have here, drilling offshore in alaska, virginia, those things will get us the energy we need. >> reporter: and with gas prices well over the $4 mark, viewers agree with his plan. >> part of being energy independent would end upbringing gas pries down. and i feel like -- that the policies over the last few years speak of themselves. >> reporter: many of these cases belong to the middle class, and romney mentioned things that are important to them. >> every middle income taxpayer no longer will pay any tax on interest, dividends or capital gains. >> yes! [

. governor romney pointed out that president reagan faced a tough economy, but created many more jobs than the president muster. he said that sketchy map was at the heart of mitt romney's ideas. one of the most intense battles has to do with domestic oil drilling. stuart varney is here to check both candidates claims with numbers straight from the federal government. >> i don't think anyone really believes that you are a person that is going to be pushing for oil and gas and coal. you will get your chance in a moment, i am still speaking. the answer is that i don't believe people think that is the case. that wasn't a question, that was a statement. megyn: fox news election alert and we are waiting president obama's first campaign event since last night's debate. as well as mitt romney. you are looking at live pictures at cornell college. the critical battleground state of iowa. the president is already addressing the crowd of some 800 people. 2000 more weight in the wings. in the meantime, governor romney also making his first appearance since last night's fiery town hall debate in chesape

? >> i think it was mitt romney's strongest answer in the entire debate. i think he did a great job as jim nelson pointed out as listing his accomplishments, the jobs, the private sector job growth, he mentioned the war in iraq, the osama bin laden attack. i think he was successful throughout the night, because on every question he pivoted and turned it into an attack on mitt romney, which is something he completely failed to do in the first debate. it was a much more forceful debate for him, for the undecided. ultimately, i don't think there are that many undecided voters. >> well, he was on the attack, no doubt about it, much more aggressive, but larry's point about a lack of plan. >> right. >> how does that play on the independents? >> yeah, i think, again, i don't think the president laid out a real future agenda. and i think that is the problem he has had from day one. the whole campaign is about defense, and i agree with you that he made a good attempt to defend his economic situation. i also agree with sarah, that romney just ripped that apart. but obama came alive. there is

policy. >> romney was on unsure footing for most of the night. he did a good job putting himself in a corner on a major issue and the president didn't have to say a thing. here's romney answering a question on equal pay for women. >> i recognize that if you're going to have women in the workforce, that sometimes you need to be more flexible. my chief of staff, for instance, had two kids who were still in school. she said, i can't be here until 7:00 or 8:00 at night. i need to be able to get home at 5:00 so i can get home making dinner for my kids and be home for them. so i said, fine, let's have a flexible schedule so we can have hours that will work for you. we need to have employers in the new economy, in the economy that i'm going to bring to play, that are going to be so anxious to get good workers, that they're going to be anxious to hire women. >> romney had no answer for fixing pay and equality in america. he wants to hire more women and give them flexible schedules so they can go home and cook dinner. he may have lost the women's vote last night. president obama saved his

campaign. the fact that president reagan did a good job and romney has been on the tv unfiltered by the media with 125 million people watching. something is changing out there. the media can't spin romney talking and standing up and articulating his views. as romney joked thursday night they are doing the best to obscure what he is saying. the reality is punching through and the gatekeepers can't deal with it. >> jon: so what about it? does it suggest the debates are more about style than substance? >> it's television, yes. of course that is through. i was struck by to the extent that people tended to stick to the vie they brought in to the debate. that includes the reporters. the washington and "new york times" said more obama comes back as the lead editorial. the "wall street journal" said, president without a plan. so what you heard is what you wanted to hear from that debate. >> jon: you like president obama. the fact that he did better in this debate. did it cheer you up? >> it certainly cheered me up. i was a little dismayed at some of the press, particularly one that said

with the economy, jobs. just overall leadership quality. so while romney didn't go as good as first debate. didn't see on his game. >> bill: too many things in his mind. it helped him when he ran all down the economy and how bad it was. you could tell it's memorized it hurts him -- >> -- it hurts him to get too much information out at once. >> bill: is he not listening then. is he trying to think of what he is going to say next. >> i think the word failure is such a powerful word when you say your record, mr. president, is one of failure. your policies have failed the american people. you deserve a failing grade. not incomplete grade but a failing grade we need a change. those -- that kind of language would be helpful to him, kind of slow it down a little bit. nevertheless, moments were great. you pointed to one of them. the coal conversation. alternative fuel vs. i was standing with a coal miner and grabbing his arm saying please help me save my job. i like that. those kind of moments for romney i think for me really work well along with the these are the metrics, this is what you promised, thi

. i want to bring up 12 million jobs promise. romney and you say that his policies, including his tax plan will help create 250,000 jobs a month for four straight years. that's a grand total of 12 million jobs. i agree with you, larry sum serz -- larry summers is a democrat. here's what he had to say about it. >> there's a long tradition of campaign arithmetic by challengers that confuses a goal with a forecast. it's a worthy goal much it's a good thing to strive for. president obama would rather create four million jobs. he'd rather create five million jobs. he's rather create six million jobs. but there's a difference between a goal and aspiration and a reasonable forecast. >> so, kevin, is 12 million jobs a golan aspiration or a reasonable forecast? is it campaign arithmetic? >> i think it's something that would happen if governor romney were elected. if you look at private sector forecasters and as you know, like moodies and mack crow economic advisors and others are already looking forward to higher growth over the next four years because they think that the recession is finally

. >> ok. we need to create jobs here and both governor romney and i agree, actually, that we should lower our corporate tax rate. it's too high but there's a difference in terms of how we would do it. i want to close loopholes that allow companies to deduct expenses when they move to china, that allow them to profit offshore and not have to get taxed so they have tax advantages offshore -- all those changes in our tax code would make a difference. governor romney actually wants to expand those tax breaks. one of his big ideas when it comes to corporate tax reform would be to say if you invest overseas you make profits overseas, you don't have to pay u.s. taxes but of course if you're a small business or a mom and pop business or a big business starting up here, you've got to pay even the reduced rate governor romney's talking about and it's estimated that will create 800,000 new jobs. the problem is they'll be in china or india or germany. that's not the way we are going to create jobs here. the way we're going to create jobs here is not just to change our tax code but also to double our

that romney's position was bad for jobs in ohio, michigan, and bad for the american economy. >> jennifer: i think it's so funny--not funny, it's offensive and funny therefore that he would do it, weird that he would do it, that he keeps going back to the auto bailout as though it was his idea when people at least in those states know very well that he wanted to let it go bankrupt. the polls after the debate called the president the winner. those snap polls they're just a snapshot which is why they're snapshots but do they reflect what we're going to see in the traditional polls in a couple of days? >> not necessarily unfortunately, i hope they will, but the reality is there is a difference between winning the debate on one hand and people voting for you on the other. they can decide that you won the debate but not vote for you. the president first was very strong. he took some of the false vene er off of romney. that was important. this race, we talked about it before, when this race is about barack obama he does less well. from the first debate to this one, it has been about barack obama a

energy. governor romney didn't have a plan to end wind jobs in iowa but he called these jobs imaginary. my plan will keep these investments and we'll keep reducing the carbon pollution that's heating the planet. the floods, the whiled fires, those aren't a joke. those are a threat oh our children's future and we can do something about it. that's part of what is at stake in this election. i want to give more americans the chance to get a great education and get the skills they need to compete in the 21st century. i tried to talk about education last night. and we kept on getting waylayed. if you're talking about jobs and economic growth. what is more important than making sure everybody has the skilled they need? i'm here because of a great education. all of the young people making an investment in a college education right now, you have to understand you need to be quipped. i shell, her gait way into opportunity was her education system. gateway into opportunity was her education system. her dad was a blue collar worker, her mom was a secretary. and right now because of the actions we

, business, creates jobs, jobs -- business, business. i agree. there's no doubt what romney will be. he will be a ceo who believes the number one goal, his one-point plan as the president put it, is to take the tax burden off small business, which he -- >> i don't agree with that. his number one plan is to create jobs. >> he said by cutting taxes. >> well, whatever. >> well, that's what he will do. he doesn't create the jobs. he cuts the taxes and -- >> he's talking about creating jobs. that helps him with swing voters. >> thank you. for a while i thought you were on the way to the truth. howard, you lost the path there. i think romney does offer a very simple solution. it is a one-point plan. i'll take the tax burden off business, small business, whatever, the other -- >> the tax burden. >> i'll make it easy for them to make money. cowboy capitalism will be back under me. all the rich people in the world will come to america to make business because this will be the easiest place to practice business in the world. that was his religion last night. now, can the president match that with

jobs. >> romney also performed well and is viewed on the winner of some issues like the economy. >>> a capsized raising boat heavily darked and -- damaged and set -- and set to be pulled from the bay today. >>> steve paulson is back in a couple of minutes to talk about possible fire danger. and then i blacked out. [ joycelin ] the nurses and doctors were amazing, and they were like a second family to me. and now i'm back to doing what i love. know? romney will do a better job than obama. and the debt is just going to continue going up. give us an answer for why we should vote for you for four more years. you gave us a double the debt that bush did, and here we are, and show me what you are going to do different. what are you going to do different? you showed me four years of debt, and i make very little money the bank it is hard for me. the prices of everything in the stores have gone up. these are the people it affects the most. host: thank you. bernice, this is your last chance, from cleveland. what did you think of last night's debate? caller: i think that obama made a good stand. you cannot hear me? host: we are listening, i promise. caller: obama is for the people specifically in the middle class and mitt romney is specifically only for the wealth, and that made it very smart that we the people vote for obama because he is for the people. host: thank you it so much for calling in from cleveland, ohio. william from somerset, pa. on our mitt romney line. how are you? caller: i wanted to make my comments on the president

as their most important issue followed by jobs. the romney campaign used an ad trying to clarify the candidate's current position on the issue. >> you know, those ads say mitt romney would ban all abortions and contraceptions seemed a bit extreme, so i looked into it. turns out, romney doesn't oppose contraception at all. in fact, he thinks abortion should be an option in cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother's life. this issue is important to me, but i'm more concerned about the debt our children will be left with. i voted for president obama last time. we just can't afford four more years. >> didn't take long for the obama campaign to respond with an ad of their own. >> seen this from mitt romney? then take a look at this. >> if roe v. wade was overturned congress passed a ban on abortions, would you sign it? >> yes, sir. let me say it, i'd be delighted to sign that bill. >> banning all abortions. >> i'd be delighted to sign that bill. >> trying to mislead us, that's wrong. but ban all apportions? only if you vote for him. >> in fairness, the obama ad doesn't give the full context of th

up. and this question is for governor romney. >> the outsourcing of american jobs overseas has taken a toll on our economy. what plans do you have to put back and keep jobs here in the united states? >> great question. an important question. because you're absolutely right. the place we've seen manufacturing go is china it's now number one. it used to be the united states. a half a million manufacturing jobs have been lost total over the last four years. one of the reasons for that is people think it's more attractive in some cases to go offshore than to stay here. we have made it less attractive for enterprises to stay here than go offshore from time to time. what i had do as president is make sure it's more attractive to come to america again. this is the way we're going to create jobs in this country. not by trickle down government. we are going to hire more government workers, raise more taxes, put in place more regulations. trickle down government has never worked here,er in worked anywhere. i want to make america the most attractive place in the world for entrepreneurs, small b

is chas currenty entranced the voters. case in point, romney's alleged plan to create 12 million jobs through those proven pro-growth policies. guess what? they're not proven at all, none of it is. in fact, "the washington post" fact checker today gives the most essential claim of romney's campaign four pinocchios. its equivalent of a pants on fire lie. calling even the most reliable of the numbers highly conditional. fact checker glen kessler writes simply, this is a case of bait and switch. bait and switch. doesn't that sound familiar? kind of like the guy who pushed through the model for individual mandates and a civilized plan for statewide health care coverage now suggesting that emergency rooms are the answer for the uninsured. >> that's the most expensive way to do it. in the emergency room. >> again, different states have different ways of doing that. some provide that care through clinics. some provide the care through emergency rooms. >> yes, and for some it's too late. that's why 45,000 die each other for lack of insurance, something the affordable care act seeks to prevent

want to build manufacturing jobs in this country again. when governor romney says we should let detroit go bankrupt, i said we would bet on american workers and the american auto industry, and it has come surging back. i want to do that all across the country. that means we change our tax code so we are giving incentives to countries investing in the united states and creating jobs here. it also means we help them and small businesses to export all around the world. we have to make sure we have the best education system in the world. the fact that you are going to college is great. i want everybody to get a great education. we have worked hard to make sure student loans are available to folks like you. i want to make sure community colleges are offering slots for workers to get retrained for the jobs out there right now. number three, we have to control our own energy. not only oil, natural gas, which we have been investing in. we also have to make sure we are building the energy sources of the future. not just next year, but 10 and 20 years from now. we invest in solar, wind, biofuels.

to preserve american jobs. mitt romney repeatedly accused china of keeping its currency artificially low, to make its exports more competitive. >> china has been a currency manipulator for years and years and years. and the president has a regular opportunity to label them as a currency manipulator, but refuses to do so. on day one, i will label china a currency manipulator, which will allow me, as president, to be able to put in place, if necessary, tariffs. >> brown: president obama countered that his administration has been tough on this issue, too. >> and as far as currency manipulation, the currency's actually gone up 11% since i've been president because we have pushed them hard. >> brown: both candidates pointed to the loss of american jobs to cheaper chinese labor. the president touted his 2009 imposition of tariffs on low- priced chinese tires. >> when i said that we had to make sure that china was not flooding our domestic market with cheap tires, governor romney said i was being protectionist, that it wouldn't be helpful to american workers. well, in fact we saved a thousand j

, in fact we saved a thousand jobs. >> brown: vernor romney sa more needs to be done. >> the place where we've seen manufacturing go has been china. china is now the largest manufacturer in the world. it used to be the united states of america. a lot of good people have lost jobs. that's total over the last four years. >> brown: it's a theme both have hit hard in ads. the obama campaign has also attacked romney for investing in companies that sent jobs to china while he was bain capital, and for investing in chinese companies themselves. >> even today, part of romney's fortune is invested in china. >> brown: last night the president again made that point, leading his opponent to a the esident whe hiinvestment go. >> any investments i have over the last eight years have been managed by a blind trust. and i understand they do include investments outside the united states, including in chinese companies. mr. president, have you looked at your pension? have you looked at your pension? >> brown: the punching-bag tone of the debate did not sit well in china. today the state-run news agency issued

thought he put romney in his place. i thought he did a fantastic job. >> reporter: student frances liked the president's feistine s feistiness. >> i liked when they got up and they almost looked like they were going to duke it out. >> no, i had a question, and the question was -- >> do you want me to answer a question, i'd be -- >> reporter: of course, it must be said, one of the reasons supporters feel high right now is because they were feeling low. how did you feel after the first debate? >> not too good. >> reporter: now? energized you? >> i'm ready to go. >> reporter: for its part, the romney campaign was so happy about the governor's message about the obama economy, they put it in a new ad. >> his policies haven't worked, and 23 americans out of work, that's what this election is about. >> reporter: and winning the election is right now quite a bit about women voters, as both candidates made clear last night. >> governor romney says that we should eliminate funding for planned parenthood. there are millions of women all across the country who rely on planned parenthood. >> reporter

carry the attack. let bill clinton -- give bill clinton the job of trying to dismantle mitt romney. let other people do that. and you, barack obama, try to be the guy that you were four years ago, updated, wiser, stronger, more sophisticated than you were. >> i think the best way we agree the best way for him to stay in as starting pitcher and not get relieved, to use world series terminology, is to strike out the side. do the job of a pitcher and nobody's going to relieve you. thank you howard and john. in a strange way, had you a good point to make. obama has to sell the future. we all agree on that. >>> coming up, president obama won the big moments in last night's debate. did he win back those key voting groups, those blocs, if you will, he needs to win to win the election? women. latinos, younger voters were big for him last time. can he get them energized again this time? did he do it last night. >>> you're not really going to hated this one. bosses for romney. there's a growing list of ceos around the country ordering their employees to vote for, guess who? mitt romney or else. t

's for governor romney. >> the outsourcing of american jobs overseas has taken a toll on our economy. what plans to you have to put jobs back in the united states? >> you're absolutely right. the place where we've seen manufacturing go has been china. china is now the largest manufacturer in the world. used to be the united states of america. a lot of good people have lost jobs. a half a million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last four years. that's total over the last four years. one of the reasons for that is people think it's more attractive in some cases to go offshore than to stay here. we have made it less attractive for enterprises to stay here than to go offshore from time to time. what i will do as president is make sure it's more attractive to come to america again. this is the way we're going to create jobs in this country. it's not by trickle down government, saying we're going to take more money from people and hire more government workers, raise more taxes, put in place more regulations, trickle-down government has neer worked here, has never worked anywhere. i want to ma

, i want to build manufacturing jobs in the country again. you know, when governor romney said we should let detroit go bankrupt, i said we're going to bet on american workers and american auto industry, and it's come surging back. i want to do that in industries, not just in detroit, but all across the country, and that means we change our tax codes so we give incentives to companies investing here in the united states and creating jobs here, but it also means we help them and small businesses to exported all around the world and new markets. number two, we got to make sure that we have the best education system in the world, and the fact you're going to college is great, but i want everybody to get a great education. we worked hard to make sure student loans are available for folks like you, but i also want to make sure that community colleges are offering slots for workers to be retrainedded for the jobs out there right now and the jobs of the future. number three, we got to control our own energy. you know, not only oil and natural gas, which we've been investing in, but also,

together. and i think the public in those states understands that romney's position is bad for jobs in ohio, michigan, and quite frankly the american economy. >> jennifer: i think it's offensive that he keeps going back to the auto bailout as though it was his idea. hey, the snap polls that were out after the debate last night, called the president the winner. those snap polls are obviously just a snapshot, but do they reflect, do you think, what we'll see in the traditional polls in a couple of days? >> not necessarily, unfortunately. we hope they will. i hope they will. but there's a difference between winning a debate on the one hand and people voting for you on the other. but i think there is a real advantage to the president coming out of this debate first he was very strong he took some of the false van near off of romney, but a macro strategic level, when this race is about barack obama, he does less well. after this debate, the race is once again about mitt romney. when it's about mitt romney barack obama does much better mitt romney does much less well so

. the longer you are out of work, the less likely you are to find a job. when mitt romney and paul ryan said they're going to put the country back to work, this is an urgent call, not one for which we can wait another four years. [applause] but you know as important as it is for us to pay our bills and not take on debt as we could -- not take on debt that we cannot afford, as important as it is to get people's sense of hope again, i want to make one other argument. i want to say one other thing. when you were secretary of state you get to go around the world and see what this great country means to the world. you get to see what people do not particularly like about us, but you also get to see how admired america is for its central belief that it does not matter where you came from, in matters where you are going. now, across the world, people look to the united states for strength. they look to the united states to keep the peace, and by the way, we have to be each turn of the grateful that we have men and women in uniform who volunteer --e volunteey [applause] and we have kept the strength

of facts, lots of figures. the economy is and the issue and i thought romney did an effective job. bill: good or bad, arguably the most dynamic debate americans watched at this level? >> i think absolutely one of the best debates. ali frazier fight. there is third one coming but it was really, first rate. if you were a obama tan you basically breathed a sigh of relief and a little cheer at the end. being a romney fan i thought he did a superb job, two back-to-back. this sort of freezes the action where it is today. which is romney gaining immeasureably on the president. we'll have a very close election. bill: taking boxing metaphor further. you are a boxer. once a boxer always a boxer. your card reeds this was a draw? is that what i hear you say. >> i would give a slight edge to romney because at the end of the day he made the case people care about, which is the economy. president came back from where he was two weeks ago. this was his best performance probably ever. romney always he gives steady performances. this was one more. bill: did the constant interruptions turn voters off. mak
