of the obama re-election campaign. their spirits and the case of the obama re-election campaign. will it work? chris: welcome back. joe biden put some pep back in the party but it's really all about barack obama. clinton was the wing under the president's wings at the convention. since then clinton's been making the case that obama didn't make there. wow. >> here's old moderate mitt. where have you been, boy? i missed you all these last few years. that's a mere conservative myth. that's how he described himself for two whole years, until three or four days before the debate. they all got together and said, hey, men, this ship is sinking faster than the titanic. but peep are still frustrated about the economy. they want it fixed yesterday. so just show up with a sunny face and say i didn't say all that stuff i said the last two years. chris: in a long piece about the clinton-obama relationship in the new issue of "new york" magazine, john hileman writes about that particular clinton performance there -- "can obama find a way to dismember roam nea so artfully, joyfully and thoroughly?" upon tha

president obama's election even more bizarre. the only possible information that i can offer you is having read his books wanting to get to know who the president of the greatest country in the world was, having read his books he makes himself sound like a republican. he makes himself sound like a true american. he very cleverly, through his use of language, through his stories portrays this idea that he really is just a regular guy can and that he's a bill clinton -- [laughter] and he's not a bill clinton. not a bill clinton. he's a long way from a bill clinton. so i think america is also a very divided place. i also tend to spend a lot of time in red states because they tend to be my favorite places to be. [laughter] but i know that there are strongholds particularly in major cities and places like that where president obama has an enormous amount of support. so i think that i'd like to be able to say that we can notch that down as a grand era that came on the back of a tumultuous time where america was in turmoil, where people were looking for someone that represented hope x. -- hope. a

elect president obama, you know what you'll get. you'll get a repeat of the last four years. we can't afford four more years like the last four years. >> a promise by president obama to make good on past commitments in a second term, something mitt romney says america can't afford. what exactly does the president have in store if he's re-elected. we're back with our panel. james, what is the president proposing to do? >> basically you heard it in the debates. more teachers, 100,000 more teachers, more infrastructure. we've been hearing that since '09. he still wants more money for infrastructure. >> not so shovel-ready projects, i guess that it? >> that's another question. these things can take 5 to 10 years to build if congress ever gave them more money for it. they're not going to happen in a second term. the other thing is, according to him trillions in deficit reduction. reduction from what he would like to spend, i guess, is the theoretical number. >> yeah, not so much cuts in spending, but reductions in the rate of growth of spending. >> right. >> it's all about 2014. it's abo

and obama presidency. governor, do you think we might have that sort of problem coming out of this election and a challenge to government because of the way the election ended? >> first of all, it's not necessarily just the election results. remember, president obama won fairly significant vote both popular and electoral, and he had some of the same legitimacy problems. president bush lost the popular vote but managed to govern i think relatively effectively. i don't think there was a legitimacy problem for very long. look, i think you're staring at a very potentially likely scenario of mitt romney carrying the popular vote and losing the electoral vote. if you believe gallup, and i have to believe gallup, but if he's by 7 in the gallup poll, there's a chance he will win the popular vote but also a fairly good chance. those scenarios, by the way, i wouldn't concede colorado and virginia for the obama campaign, not in a minute. so i think there's a very legitimate chance that romney wins the popular vote, loses the electoral vote. remember, if john kerry switched 70,000 votes, he could have

ads making a case for obama is re-election, 16,000 times in the swing states. there are advertisements out there that show bill clinton and president obama as if they were running mates. that is really great for his ego. he gets to see clintonism. what he brought into the world. his rightful place, barack obama ran as an antidote to clinton. that is too much triangulation, to incremental. i'm going to be post partisan and transcendent and visionary. now he is not running as an antidote, he is running as the inheritor. i am the one to carry the clinton creek forward. he gets back and he also gets with that, the restoration. that can't help but help hillary clinton if she decides to run in 2016 which everyone around her think she is going to do. at one me to do obama? -- want me to do obama? he gets the most widely respected and almost neutral economic orbiter, the highest approval rating, 69% who is taken and associated with this period of peace. he can talk owls down from the trees. the best spokesman in the history of the world. and to make his case for working-class and middle-class

if obama is re-elected you can see pam pant inflation higher gas prices. similar tunes at other companies including aic software solutions, lax enterprises and everybody heard from the owner of west gate last week warning of possible job cuts if president obama is elected. >>> microsoft is unveiling an i tune competition. explain. >> xbox music essentially is a streaming music service in time for the holidays. the caveat is it will work on xbox and windows 8 phones and tablets not windows 7. this is a slap in the face for pandora as they are trying to up the game with the holiday dollars just in time for christmas and hanukkah. >> usually you are in studio with us but today you are downtown. what are you doing down there? >> it's national boss day. everybody say something nice to your boss. or maybe you want to dump them. hi, chris. chris is our lovely boss today. we are going to dunk him. two out of three workers according to a new survey said that they not only do not like their boss, they would rather get a new boss over a pay raise. there's so much dissatisfaction among american compa

now the koch brothers are warning their employees about the obama election. but first here in studio, the one and only governor jennifer granholm, welcome to new york. enough of your detroit tigers mugs on your set. >> it's dangerous to be here in new york. >> eliot: we have plenty to talk about. what do you have coming up on the show. >> you've been talking about the debate. i have michael tomaskci who is talking about how the president has to fight for people. remember what he's doing. he's fighting for people. it's not about him but those who he's fighting for. we have an interesting story. do you remember nathan school who was hired by the g.o.p. to do voter registration and was now under investigation in a number of states. turns out guess who else hired him, karl rove. >> eliot: really crossroads. >> eliot: voter fraud has only been supported with the republican party and disenfranchised tens of millions of good voters. >> that's the concern. >> eliot: we look forward to watching at 10:00 p.m. eastern and the new york yankees they better start hitting the baseball. we'll both b

every person to volunteer. it is that idealism that got barack obama elected in 2008. that is why my generation has n annan enthusiasm about this election. >> i think we didn't get a big vision for the next four years at all really. >> it is a campaign of differentiation. >> that is correct. foreign policy. monday is the last chance. 17 million people tuned in last night. this is going to be a make or break. who is going to win that? >> so, i think this is one of those ones where i actually view mitt romney as having the potential coming in as the under dog but has a strong hand. i don't expect him to miss on the libya issue next time around. people have generally said that because the economy and domestic policy is really his strong suit is where they expect him to perform well. i think he is able to link america's place in the world to jobs. >> what happens if he comes out and says look, come on your foreign policy has been a disaster and barack obama says i killed bin laden and i helped to kill ghadafi and i ended the war in iraq and announced the war in afghanistan and i helped

letters to their 45,000 employees at georgia pacific saying what will happen if barack obama is elected. it's the same that cenk was selling you earlier. this is what they said. if we elect candidates who spend hundreds of billions in borrowed money on costly new subsidies for a few favored cronies put unprecedented amounts of money on projects, and exit live hinder free trade, then many of our more than 50,000 u.s. employees and contractors may suffer the consequences, including higher gasoline prices and other ills, the vague "other ills" which is a vague way of saying you may lose your job too. these are the same people who have been criticizing unions for so long saying they're telling people how to vote. what do they do? they tell people how to vote. the g.o.p. does not like unions. listen to this. >> the problem is that you're probably forced to join the union in the first place. so it's obvious that unions are going to be political entities. it's obvious that the union boss also say these people elected us, therefore they believe in what we believe in. >> they're always complaini

the presidential election. he lost it to barack obama. for him to say that the president doesn't know what these kinds of tragedies are about, he's the president of the united states, four people died while he was president. of course he knows what it's about. to take it out of context is the crime that mccain has done, and so many of these conservative talkers have done. let's listen exactly to what stewart said. this is the question he asked and listen to the word that he used to cue the president. >> prior to the investigation helping the communication between these divisions not just what happened in bengahzi, but what happened within. i don't know, i would say even you would admit that it was not the optimal response to at least the american people as far as us all being on the same page. >> they were afghani a conversation. the interviewer said optimal. the president said optimal back. that was the it mr. mccain. here is kelly iot. >> the president's statement today was astounding. the murder of four americans is tragic and totally unacceptable. and i would say this is part of a bigg

on the fact that obama's re-election was all but certain. it's really going to come down to, if you listen to the experts, a handful of states here. so, i would probably wait to be a buyer on a dip or sell some puts to be a buyer on a dip, but certainly would not be an aggressive buyer at these levels given the runoff they've had over the past several months. > > nevertheless, there is a trader play for you. good to have you on the show today. that's trader tim biggam of tradingblock. > > thank you angie. that's a wrap for today. coming up tomorrow in movies & money, films starring hostages continue to reign at the box office. but this weekend, hollywood is adding in another kind of a thriller. from all of us at first business, have a wonderful wednesday. . >>> good morning, thank you for joining us, it still feels warm out there is it going to be even warmer today? >> no doubt about it, not as warm as today, we are good to go, 70s and 80s and some low 90s. >>> good evening traffic is off to a good start, for the most part, we are still doing well, between walnut creek and oakland, nice lo

's some polls he's surging in. he we're going to have an election, we're going to find out if it's obama, i'm scare for this economy, i'm scared for this country and i'm just worried that that's the way it's going to turn out. investors should prepare, have a plan. >> i think on the other side, if president obama is re-elected. we're going to see tax cuts on earners -- tax hikes, a complete opposite scenario which will take this economy down. >> all the bush era tax rates, not just the healthiest, we are looking at going back into another great recession four years later, when we spend all our bullets for getting out of a recession four years ago, we don't got no more bullets, if that happens, we'll be dead. >> your basic point is the election is it, you just have to wait until the election. >> coming up on kudlow, the murder rate is sky high in obama's hometown in chicago. they're kicking around another crazy solution, this time taxing bullets and taxing firearms. customer erin swenson bought from us online today. so, i'm happy. sales go up... i'm happy. it went out today... i'm happy.

. >> i think after obama got elected in 2008, these progressive activists got a little seduced by being close to power, and the obama inside staff people were pretty good at seducing them, and i think there is still a bit of that, but i think after four years of frustration, there have been some good things, but it clearly frustrated a lot of people who thought it would be a much more progressive administration, and even counting the right-wing assaulted -- assault in congress, i think people are aware that if you are going to make progress in the second term, there has to be something out there. a group of men organizing groups here in california tried to get a home on a bill rights -- a group of various organizing groups here in california try to get a homeowner's bill of rights. governor brown signed that bill, which really pretax a lot of people from the worst parts of foreclosure -- which really protects a lot of people from the worst parts of foreclosure. the grass-roots movement is ready to explode, and i think that you are right that the obama administration may or may not welco

election tonight, president obama showed one reason voters consider him more likeable presidential candidate and that of course is his sense of humor. they spoke at the 67th annual al smith dinner in new york city. a speaking invitation democrat and republican nominees have been accepting since 1960. they are not expected to get too serious here is the president earlier tonight. >> this is the third time that governor romney and i have met recently. as some of you may have noticed i had a lot more energy in our second debate. i felt really well rested after the nice long nap i had in the first debate. [ applause ] >> although it turns out millions of americans focused in on the second debate who didn't focus in on the first debate and i happen to be one of them. i particularly want to apologize to chris matthews. four years ago i gave him a thrill up his leg this time around i gave him a stroke. of course there are a lot of things i learned from that experience. for example, i learned that there are worse things that can happen for you on your anniversary than forgetting to buy a g

's the good news. obama care covers preexisting conditions! >> with just 18 days until the election, president obama got some important endorsements today and mitt romney got an ailment that dr. obama diagnosed as romnesia. >> he's forgetting what his own positions are. and he's betting that you will too. i mean, he's changing up so much and backtracking and sidestepping. we've got -- we've got to name this condition that he's going through. i think, i think it's called romnesia. if you say you'll protect a woman's right to choose but you stand up in a primary debate and said that you would be delighted to sign a law out lawing that right to choose in all cases, man, you definitely got romnesia. and if you come down with a case of romnesia, and you can't seem to remember the policies that are still on your website, or the promises that you've made over the six years you've been running for president, here's the good news. obama care covers preexisting conditions. >> after dr. obama listed the symptoms of romnesia in virginia today, dr. biden warned a florida audience about just how contagious

. >> he says barack obama' election would be a victory for moderate liberalism. he said george was a statesman of great conscious and conviction. the mcgovern family says he continued giving speeches and advising past his 90th boyfriend. the family says services will be held in sioux falls, south dakota. >> heather: peter doocy, thanks, peter. >> gregg: violent protests erupting in the streets of lebanon, soldiers using tear gas to try to push back a mob. storming government headquarters in beirut. crowd enraged over a top official assassinated in a car bomb. many are blaming the syrian government for that bombing and call for the lebanese prime minister to re-sign. >> heather: new fallout over an issue that is expected to ignite a fierce debate during tomorrow night's face-off. the days falling the benghazi attack. molly henneberg has more. >> molly: this may be a taste of the presidential debate. they are debating the handling of the libya attack. one top republican senator says the administration should have seen that our consulate in benghazi was vulnerable and done somethi

the mail. couldn't wait for election day. love you, mo. the pidea of president obama losing ohio could cause some democrats to fraek out. the consequences would be map changing. early on "morning joe," mark halperin talked about how the president's lack wlus ter performance in the first debate put ohio in play and gave mitt romney more ways to 270. >> if governor romney is able to win the three southern states of the nine toss ups, and ohio, he's not favored in ohio, but he's now got a position to win, that gets him to 266. if he can take ohio, and i talked to two democrats now who think it's possible that the president's position in ohio will erode to such an september that he could lose it, means all governor romney would need to do would be win one of those five toss ups in yellow and that's a huge change. that map gives governor romney the electoral college advantage that the president has long enjoyed. >> we'll get you to ohio in a second. joining me from the debate site is co-chair of the obama re-election campaign and ohio's democrat he can strickland. we'll get to ohio in a sec

the attack might disrupt the election. the white house and president obama have been briefed on the plot. joining me, mayor of a neighbor city, cory booker. >> thanks for having me back. >> let's start off this foiled bomb plot, 21-year-old from bangladesh, might be inspired by al qaeda. it remind me of the ever-present danger of a rogue terrorist element. >> yeah, this is a reality we live in. not just in the new york city area, all over the country, london, europe, south america, in places like mumbai. what i'm very sort of impressed with is the law enforcement coalition we have since 9/11. in the six years i've been mayor, i've seen it get tighter and tighter and tighter, communications the way we investigate these things. this is just another tribute, another terrorist attack that did not happen. >> the fbi set up a sting operation, dummies for his plot and they foiled the plot. >> i know from my experience in newark, we've had some places that were specifically targeted as well. the best thing i want people to understand, if you see something, say something. a lot of times we've see

this on saturday. at moment, election looks like coming down to ohio, huge spending by both sides, but obama tv buying operation infinitely smarter. today's president obama's infinitely smarter operation released this television ad in four swing states. >> we've gone from pulling into our parking lot, whether i was so depressing it would be two or three cars in this parking lot to a parking lot being full. >> we have a whole second shift that we bought in new employees and we have a future at our plant now. >> when you look the athe president's plan, i don't think there could be any question that we're on the right course for today's economy. >> the president does get what people need and that's jobs and the opportunity to help with themselves. >> stick with this guy. he will move us forward. >> i'm barack obama and i approved this message. >> here's what the star of the highest rated daytime show among young women had to say about mitt romney today. >> governor romney was supposed to be on with us this thursday with p ann romney, we were looking forward to it. over the weekend, his people said

for governor romney to win the election. >> the president he's lead there has been 5, 6, points. >> the obama campaign is leaving nothing to chance. >> president barack obama. >> former president bill clinton? are we better off? you bet we are. if obama wins it it may be because a former president saved his presidency. >> i am clinton. as overlord, all will kneel before me and obey my commands. end communication. >>> with just 22 days until election and 23 hours until the second presidential debate, a new "washington post" poll shows the number of undecided voters shrinking. nearly two-thirds say they do not need any more information before election day, and barely one in eight is undecided or says there is a chance he or she could change the vote. while president obama spent today in debate prep in virginia, michelle obama campaigned in ohio, where the latest poll of likely voters shows the president ahead by five points. >> this morning, let me tell you what i did. the i cast my ballot early for barack obama. it felt so good right now, my absentee ballot is on its way to my hometown, chicag

. and particularly, if president obama is elected. >> i hope so. >> i hope not. >> neil: it is argued that that is what will happen. >> that will be one of the worst things for the economy. if that happens, when we raise taxes, i'm not talking plugging loopholes, really raising marginal rates on a family of four that makes $200,000, and lives on long island, hardly a billionaire, as the president likes to call them, i think will really slow down the economy and i think in this country we'll have to get used to 10% unemployment, like a norm. >> not only are we fools for not demanding congress and demanding our lawmakers do something about the debt, 2/3 of the $16 trillion is owned by u.s. investors, it is owned by its -- by the social security trust fund, we are essentially -- weeds are the problem. we as a nation are the problem. >> neil: wait, you are saying we owe it to ourselves. >> yes. >> neil: then we don't have to pay it. >> china owns less than 8% of our national debt and that includes the federal reserve, 2/3 of that... is u.s. investors -- >> that is bad. >> neil: why is tha

. latest gallup poll gives him an edge over obama, a little more than two weeks before election day. you know just about every day we see a variety of polls showing one candidate leading, the other trailing. if you really want to go beyond the numbers you might want to handicap the race with some very unscientific indicators. reporter explains. >> one poll shows romney up by six. another shows romney up in a couple battleground states. could the key actually be predicted? >> maybe not the goblin that has show up the door but this measure has been out of the four elections and right now obama mats are out selling them by 30%. a school magazine let's students vote based on the last elections. voting is over but the results have not been released. >> baseball bats about .600 in picking the winner. it's if american league, a republican will win the white house. but we don't even know which national league team is playing yet. for a couple elections ago, washington redskins had a perfect record. if the team wins the last game before election day, the incumbent wins. would it seem the presiden

and romney are focusing on getting women's vote. women were key to president obama's election four years ago and will be key again come november 6th. >> why is it that there are 3.6 million more women in poverty today than when the president took office? this president has failed america's women. >> mitt romney said women are coming up to him on the campaign trail asking how they can find jobs and better schools for their children. he was in virginia today which is also considered a swing state. romney's camp says he'll make a speech next week about spending and debt. >> it's a historic ruling, a federal judge has decided that san mateo county and other municipal investors can sue investors with the now-bankrupt lehman brothers for fraud. jana katsuyama is here live. >> san mateo county lost a lot of money with lehman brothers and they had to make deep staff and services cuts at places such as the san mateo county medical center here. they are moving forward to recoup taxpayer money now that the judge has cleared the way. >> reporter: san mateo county lost $155 million, a pool of money inves

the corner? >> i wouldn't bet money lost that obama was going to make a statement before the election. i thought he wouldn't do it. i thought he would feel it was too much of a political risk. this is another important about our movements. we're having unlikely and likely allies, allies like president obama take risks for our community. that is a really important step in a social justice movement. >> because? >> it shows we're worth risking for. he knows that it's the right side of history to be in support of gay couples being fully recognized as equal. >> uh-huh. >> i think it's helped obama. given people struggling with the issue but wanted to feel like they were doing the right thing in terms of justice, equality and fairness, it's given them permission to follow the same ark and path that president obama followed and ended up fully supporting our relationships. i think a lot, we have seen the polls shift, and i think's lot of that is tied to the president's support. >> yeah, and let's be clear also about what it is that the gay people want. by the way, when i say gay people, i mean

until election, president obama is now feeling better about the debates. >> we had our second presidential debate last night, and you know, i'm still trying to get the hang of this thing. but as bee saw last night, the five-point plan really boils down to one point. folks at the very top get to play by a different set of rules than you do. the we cannot grow this economy from the top down. we grow it from the middle out. we're not going backwards, we're going forward. that's why i'm running for a second term for president and that's why i want your vote. >> the second debate was watched by over 65 million television viewers, just about the same number that watched the first debate. according to a reuters poll, 48% of registered voters believe that president obama won the debate. 33% showed that mitt romney won. and a cbs poll shows 37% of uncommitted voters believe president obama won and 30% believe mitt romney won. the president won this praise from leading conservative thinker george will. >> i think the president's tactical victory was on trying to get mitt romney to unrin

arena. >> i can tell you that if you elect president obama, you know what you're going to get, a repeat of the last four years. >> this week on "inside washington," the presidential debate. >> governor romney does not have a five-point plan. he has a one-point plan. >> the women's vote. >> governor romney feels comfortable having politicians in washington making choices for women. >>he preside's stement of my policy is completely and totally wrong. >> the brawl over libya. >> it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in benghazi an act of terror. >> he date, in fact, serve -- >> if you laughs at the al smith dinner. >> i am well rested after the night-long nap at the first debate. so much totime redistribute. captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> this is a close race. at week's end, the national gallup poll gave romney is largest lead so far. the president is looking good in the battleground states of iowa and wisconsin, however it is on the heels of the second presidential debate. the president showed up for this one and the result was a l

, it will be a wash in terms of its effect on the dynamic of the election. >> in a way, obama couldn't and cannot overcome the damage he did in the first debate, because what happened in the first debate is that romney became acceptable but he did not look like a mean rich guy who was sort of thoughtless and totally unconnected from the real world. once you make somebody acceptable, it is very hard to make him unacceptable. they had made him unacceptable, and when obama did use that -- did not use that in the fourth debate, it was a serious mistake. >> i want to talk about the women's vote. >> made a concerted effort to hire women who have backgrounds that made them qualified to be members of our candidate. i went to women's groups and said, can you help us find folks, and they brought us hold binders full of women. >> that went viral almost immediately. what set that off? >> the binders. smalley, that did not bother me. what bothered me wasay, i foundt romney's people did not approach the women's groups for suggestions. the women's groups approach romney and said, you don't have any women, you d

[ laughs ] hey! >>> with 19 days to go in the election president obama is holding onto the leads. new nbc news wall street journal out this evening shows president obama with an 8-point lead. that is virtually unchanged from last month. and in wisconsin the president leads by six points. 51-45% in paul ryan's home state. bill clinton had something to say about the debates in another battleground state today where the president leads ohio. >> listen very carefully to the debate and to the second debate. and mr. romney says i'm going to do all this. i'm going to just cut taxes for the middle class i'm not interested inri rich people the will pay the same percentage we pay now. he thinks we are dumb. if you cut everyone else's taxes and we stay the same it means we pay the same. >> the future is rarely a tide rushing in. it is often a slow march inch by inch day after long day and i believe we are in the midst of those long days right now. and i'm here because i believe president obama feels those days in his bones for all 100% of us. vice president biden t
