debate devoted to foreign policy. this is typically the president's strongest area, foreign policy, plays to his experience. is this perilous turf for romney? >> not at all. it has been his strongest area until last month, the attacks in benghazi. since then the white house has been on the defensive, being accused misleading the electoral. a pew poll out this week says romney and obama ever even on who will handle foreign policy better. this speaks to a growing feeling in the american electorate that president obama has politicized foreign policy, that everything he's done in foreign policy, especially last year, is driven by his re-election strategy. >> the president scored in the debate by accusing romney of saying you are getting very upset because romney had said -- he implied, said we politicalize foreign policy. he said, no, we don't do that, and don't you dare say that. >> i think there's an even greater danger. i have worries about this debate coming up monday, because i think the obama team understands that romney really hasn't clarified his foreign policy positions and they'll t

showdown between president obama and governor mitt romney. tomorrow is final debate on foreign policy could michael or break the election now, only 16 days away. at stake momentum with millions of voters expected to tune in. there is a brand-new "wall street journal" poll showing just how tight this race is. take a look. president obama and governor romney tied at 47% among likely voters. john roberts is live at the site in boca raton, florida. what is the race looking like there? >> vast looking very tight. you mentioned the "wall street journal" poll. that is a battle ground states. this is where things could change. we were talking about how important these debates are. it's difficult to overstate because unlike most election cycles these debates have been moving the numbers. the goal for governor romney is to hang on those solid gains he has made since the first debate three weeks ago. he has been heavily involved in debate prep, hunkered down for last couple of days. took some time out to attend church with his wife. then earlier this afternoon presided over a ceremonial coin toss at a

if will focus this time on foreign policy. wednesday mr. obama plans to pull an all-nighter both in key battleground states to launch a whirlwind tour of six states starting in iowa and he will cast his vote early in chicago on thursday. romney, meanwhile, held his final formal fundraising event last night. he has raised more than $361 million in his latest bid for the white house. >>> president obama has secured the endorsement of ohio's largest newspaper. the cleveland plane dealer says that obama has fumbled the economic recovery but also says he has led the nation back from the brink of depression. ohio in particular has benefit from his bold decision to revive the auto industry. it was gutsy, and it worked. ohioans are making cars in toledo and lordstown. they're back on the job. that's leadership that deserves a chance to finish the job. >>> mitt romney is picking up an endorsement from a paper in another key swing state. that's nevada. the reno gazette journal says, "based on our current fiscal condition, a still weak economy and a congress deeply divided along party lines, our n

to be much of a difference between the two candidates when it comes to foreign policy. but the president is getting prepared in study hall this weekend out at camp david. i think when you talk to folks out there, most people believe the president does have an advantage going into this debate. we expect he'll talk about getting osama bin laden but no one here at the white house, no one with the campaign is under estimating governor romney. he won the first debate. he had a strong performance in debate number 2, and that's perhaps why you saw the president out on the campaign trail this week warming up, hitting mitt romney on foreign policy. >> the next debate on monday will be about foreign policy. it will be interesting to hear what governor romney has to say. he said, he thought it was tragic the way we ended the war in iraq. said double down on this. said we should still have troops in iraq. just said this a couple weeks ago. i think that was a mistake. >> reporter: the president still remains vulnerable on libya, even as more information comes out about what the intelligence community

of the presidential campaign. of course, it's expected to be front and center in the foreign policy debate that will occur in florida tomorrow night as accusations continue over the administration's response, what it did, and what it did not do and how the president and his aides reacted. that attack killed u.s. ambassador chris stephens and three other americans. there are other reports this morning that a drov drone arrivd near the end of the o onslaught, videoing it in real-time as officials in washington watched. how will this tragedy define tomorrow's faceoff? john bolton is the former ambassador to the united nations and a fox news contributor that joins us on sunday mornings at this time. good morning, ambassador. >> good morning, eric. >> governor romney who you have advised, what should he say to president obama tomorrow night? >> the tragedy that occurred in benghazi is a debacle for not only the administration's foreign policy before the attack and after the attack, it's also emblematic of the failed world view, its inability to understand what's going on in the middle east and

to respond to senator rubio. i want to start with foreign policy. it's the focus of this final big debate. on the question of iran, and "the new york times" story this morning to repeat saying that there is now the prospect of direct talks between the obama administration and the iranian officials over their program, it's not finalized according to the white house is whether it's a final deal. but there is potential there. you hear th you're here to speak for the president. why does he think this would be critical to avoiding a potential military showdown with iran? >> i don't want to go too deeply into what may or may not happen because the white house has said as you say there is no deal, and i don't have any inside details of that nor should i. but here's what i do know. for two years, the president travelled the world putting together a withering international coalition. and now the sanctions that they agreed on are bringing the iranian economy to its knees. and there's a tremendous disquiet in iran. their currency has dropped in value by 50%. their oil business has dropped by 50%. th

deficits, rolling back the rules huge pressure no sides for the last debate on monday. it's foreign policy and one of the biggest flash points was foreign policy what happened in benghazi with the ambassador. it was me a home run moment for mitt romney he screwed up. there were valid criticisms he could have raised. we had the admission from the secretary of state, hillary clinton it was her blame and not the president. i would have gone on that. mitt romney used >>> why didn't you use acts of terror when the president had used that. if you're being honest about this, david, the wider issue is not just that little dispute over acts of terror. it's really about what happened and who knew what and what the security requirements were that came through and did the white house ever see them? had mitt romney phrased the question better, it would have been a more difficult moment for the president than it was. do you accept as administration that there were failings here? >> look, i think what the president said last night was very, very clear. he feels -- he takes responsibility for every single

own party said he handled it poorly. and the romney record on foreign policy is bluster and blunders. that's all he has been able to demonstrate. doesn't matter whether it's iran, iraq, which the tragedy to bring the troops home, where it's bin laden, which he said he wouldn't move heaven and earth to do anything about. whether it's going on europe-- >>> on benghazi, does the governor -- does the governor have a point, with these questions. 24 hour it's within 24 hour, caa said it was a terror attack. have you chris stevens asking for more security -- >> the republicans voted against the additional security. look, i think there is only the president has been taking this seriously. have you republicans who did a document dump, putting lives at risk. i think the american people are going to watch the debate and say, which candidate has a thoughtful, serious approach to really difficult foreign policy questions, which one is saying whatever he's for, i'm against. i am for this, but not later on. i am going to flip flop on a variety of issues and on some issues, i don't have a difference

obama will meet on the stage, lynne university, the debate is to focus on foreign policy. >> paul, how close is this race? >> it's about as close as you can get, a brand-new poll out today from nbc "wall street journal" indicates 47% of likely voters nationwide are supporting the president, 47% are supporting mitt romney the republican nominee. you can't get any closer than that. a lot of these key battleground states including here in florida. we had to pull out here in florida but also it's basically all knotted up. the new nbc/"wall street journal" poll is interesting, there's a new gender gap there. the president has an advantage among women. and romney has a bigger lead among men. so a real gender gap here, but martin, these type holes in the states and nationally, they tell me one thing that there's so much at stake right behind me here when these men face off for the third and time debate. >> mitt romney has been president yet. is there a way that mitt romney can turn the discussion to economics? the real question for this campaign? >> yeah, there sure is, the moderator bob schi

'll be speaking to aaron david miller about foreign policy. that, of course, is the topic of the next and last debate. >> heather: as gregg was referencing, two down, one to go. with the third presidential debated just around the corner. president obama and governor romney staying off the campaign trail today. instead getting ready the final facesoff before voters head to the polls. monday's debate will focus on foreign policy with all the simmering hot spots. biden and ryan are out in full force stomping for votes as for the race for the white house enters the final phase. with poll numbers getting tight they are the critical swing state of florida, carl cameron is there streaming live from boca raton. >> reporter: as greg palkot was saying, benghazi has the world's attention. it will be a big part of the debate when the two presidential candidates. >> heather: we're having a few issues with that shot, as well. with carl cameron. again the campaigns continue 18 days until election day. we'll continue to follow it for you. >> gregg: we want to show you some brand-new poll numbers showing gover

's going to change to foreign policy. let's push forward to monday. michael, the third and final presidential debate will be focused on foreign policy. when we look at that issue specifically, how do both candidates need to make these issues digestible and practice to voters when many of them are saying, let's talk about the economy? >> well, you know, normally i tend to think that foreign policy is a strong suit of the gop candidate, normally an opportunity to flex muscles and talk about the need for a strong defense and to mobilize their base. up until libya, up until benghazi, i thought this was a role reversal. i thought that it would be the strong suit of the obama administration, and in many respects and i'm thinking about the takedown of bin laden in particular it still is. the libyan issue is a key issue, at least to the extent my callers are listening to the country. i think it favors the president, foreign policy as an issue, with the footnote that benghazi may be problematic for him. >> erin, is it what have you done for lately? you add in china, which is added to disc

to prepare for monday's final debate on foreign policy. what are you hearing about how the president is preparing? and what does he need to do in this final debate monday? >> well, the president's in camp david. he'll be there all weekend. he went with his chief speech writer, david plouffe, they're all with him, john kerry is there. i think that you'll see him sort of take the same path that he took last week. they were very pleased with his performance last week. he kind of struck a good balance. he came out as aggressive. so i think that he needs to do the same thing. i think that what you'll see is, you'll kind of see some of that and you'll see him kind of take to task. he'll kind of point to in his closing arguments lately he's been saying, he's been portraying romney as a severe conservative. he's been saying he's a flip-flopper. so i think you'll see both arguments in the debate on monday. >> you know, david, mitt romney has not really mentioned libya and the attacks there since struggling with 9 second debate. how do you expect governor romney to handle this issue in the fin

debate to draw contrasts on issues, not exclusive to foreign policy, but wider issues like leadership, competence and visions for the future. richard? >> a lot of people looking forward to monday's debate there. also, the governor has some plans tonight. see not necessarily going to call it a night? >> reporter: no, you're right. he is on his way to a fundraiser right now, as we understand. one of the hosts that has been reported is mark liter. he is the man who hosted that fundraiser back in may where the now infamous as they could be best described 47% comments were first made by mitt romney. this event is taking place at a different private home. the campaign has been keiji about different events throughout the course of the campaign. certainly no different today, giving no details about what exactly will be taking place there. it is closed press. florida is significant, richard. this state is third overall in terms of states where mitt romney has raised money after only california and texas. $19 million the governor has raised here compared to just $14 million for the president. a

lost their standard of living -- >> let's talk about foreign -- >> those are the policies and it's a clear choice of moving forward and or going back. >> let's talk about foreign policy. some republican members of congress have been pressing the administration to be more forthcoming about what was known of the security forces in benghazi. a chairman of the oversight committee, he asked -- whether based on political cat concerns or neglect, the actions of this administration. the american people deserve nothing less than a full explanation from this administration about these events, including why the repeated warnings about a worsening security situation apparently had been ignored. the president didn't directly answer that on tuesday. who rejected the request for more security and why? >> george, first of all, i have been fortunate in my life to work on both sides of pennsylvania avenue and the president of the united states has ordered an investigation of what happened, who's responsibile and bring them to justice just like he did osama bin laden and the leadership of al qaeda.

debate, all foreign policy, but do you think economic policy should come in? after what is happening with the economy and debt as a national security issue, is that what mitt romney has to do? >>governor huckabee: it is fair to point out there is an economic aspect of foreign policy, not just how much we invest in other countries but there is an impact on our country if foreign countries are falling apart it affects our economy. what is doing on in europe is affecting us. >>neil: thank you, governor. his ratings are off the chart, by the way. this poll that shows romney always had an edge on economic policy and now foreign policy? my insurance rates e probably gonna double. but, dad, you've got... [ voice of dennis ] allstate. with accident forgiveness, they guarantee your rates won't go up just because of an accident. smart kid. [ voice of dennis ] indeed. are you in good hands? >>neil: governor romney nearly erasing the president's lead on foreign policy a month following the benghazi murders coming at the c.i.a. delivers a separate blow to the administration. we are getting word i

the ambassador and others. romney supporters say this represents a major foreign policy fair and democrats accuse republicans of exploiting the tragedy. ed henry is live in williamsburg, virginia. the white house still taking heat from republicans over the attack in benghazi. >>reporter: that is right. it is relevant tomorrow because this is the first time the president will be in a debate where foreign policy is on the table, both domestic and foreign policy will be at issue in this townhall-style format. the first denver was about the economy and domestic issues. when vice president biden got questions of libya in the v.p. debate on thursday, and suggests that he and the president had not been in the loop on the security questions and requests for more security in libya on the ground that were denied by the state department, it kickoff a new firestorm with republicans suggesting that maybe there is a coverup and democrats say that everyone should calm down. take a listen. >> this is the same administration that leaks every detail of classified operations that are successful. in a week you had t
