folks say can pick presidential winners. four years ago they set up two bowls of nuts. an obama bowl an mccain bowl. he preferred the obama nuts and this year he favors romney nuts. (laughter) >> stephen: there it. (cheers and applause) folks, get used to the term president romney. hmmmm, hmmmm. oh that leaves a real taste in your mouth. what is that? i think that's-- that's romney nuts. (laughter) hmmmm, hmmmm. (applause) folks, it is going to be great. because mitt has got big plans right out of the gate. >> i will repeal obamacare and stop it in its tracks on day one. starting on day one. i'm going to do what it takes to get america back to work. >> on day one i will label china a currency manipulater. >> i can guarantee you if i'm president on day one we're going to get at approval from that pipeline from canada. >> i will on day one put a halt to all the regulations that were put in during the obama years. >> stephen: wow! the drive and ambition. i mean those are the qualities of a real leader. or a serious tweaker. (laughter) either way, m itt is going to keep those promises, i

the regulations that were put in during the obama years. >> stephen: wow! the drive and ambition. i mean those are the qualities of a real leader. or a serious tweaker. (laughter) either way, m itt is going to keep those promises, i know. because i have his day one schedule right here. let's see. okay, here we go. january 20th, 2013. 8 a.m. to noon, inauguration. 12:30, appoint cabinet. 1:00, take photo for white house i.d. card. 1:07, retake photo. 1:45, repeal obamacare. 2:30, examine remains of ross well aliens. 3:00, unwrap oval office label maker. 3:15 label china a currency manipulater. 4:00, 4:00, pick nuclear launch codes, maybe zip code plus ann's birthday, question mark? 6:00, take down biden's old eric estrada posters. 6:15, get everyone in america a job. 8:00, activate self-deportation. 9:00, immigration, solve. 10:00 w presidency completed, resign. and attend inauguration of president ryan. (laughter) (applause) and president ryan's day one, mostly shoulders but also some legs an backs. (applause) folks, these days, going to be exciting. going to be exciting. get used to it these

's a lot. it me anders around through the bush years. but when you get to the obama years, it drops steadily down. that's evidence, they say, he doesn't want to address the issue. but there's more to it. deportations, they started steadily moving up and in the obama years, look, they reached the highest level we've ever seen under any president. president obama embraced the policies of george bush when it came to securing the border down there. he continued the program to increase funding, to put more guards down there and more motion detectors and cameras, moe drones, more helicopters, more airplanes, so that now we have the help of an economic change where there aren't so many jobs here attractive, the pew hispanic centers says the net immigration is about zero. president obama can say he did something on that front. the idea that he promised comprehensive immigration reform, he did not deliver. he did push the dream point at one act, to protect the children of people who came here illegal illegally, but in terms of the bigger package, that's something he'll have to deal with if h

%, medicare, taxes, abortion. and what the obama team has done over the last year for days is they have showed that to a lot of focus groups and a lot of voters. they look to try to find out which of those arguments at home and which of those at attraction. allowing the president to cherry pick from his performance the homing on issues that seem to have the most traction with voters. when you see president obama focus on one or two of those issues, those are the ones that resonate. tavis: is there any way that the debate tomorrow night between obama and ronnie could crawl a more stark contrast between the choices between biden and ryan? i have a hard time believing how either one of them make a lot more definitively clear. >> part of the reason for that is governor romney doesn't want it to be started. -- stark. whether you say he was evasive, untruthful, pivoting, or whatever you call it, he clearly made the move to the metal in one fell swoop. he did not gradually edged towards the center from having been out further in the extreme, he did not do it gradually. he did it in one big chunk, and

obama ram on fort years ago is he had a unique ability to reach out to the muslim world and make things better. i believe that. based on speeches he has given and some of the stagecraft suggesting president obama has moved the u.s. away from israel, it has opened a new rift. the situation in libya, because we're dealing with islamic extremists who committed a terrorist attack and assassinated our ambassador, it speaks to the larger issue of whether president obama will make things better in the middle east. i would argue he has not. i would argue he made things worse. anyone would agree things are not better their than before he took office. host: let's go to debbie. caller: i am from michigan. i appreciate your comment about a earthlings. i am one of those earthlings. i do not understand why none of the media has picked up on what romney said in the debate when president obama was talking about tax breaks for moving overseas. mitt romney said he needed to get a new accountant. like the man needs another tax break. that is all i got today. thank you for taking my call. guest: that was o

high, i sound like a.5-year-old girl. >> obama girl isn't sing hers either. i'm pretty sure. >> oh, good. that makes me feel good. >> sean: if i'm wrong i will correct that for the left wing media. >> thank you. >> sean: the news continues. let not your heart be troubled. greta goes "on the record." we'll see you tomorrow night. >> greta: tonight in just 23 hours a debate that could change everything. will governor mitt romney add to his momentum or will president obama stop him in his tracks? >> well, who says debates don't matter? there were 60 polls in the last week in 27 states. if you look at the 30-day map there were three status changes all of them benefiting romney. >> who did he blame for his bad debate? oh blames john kerry. blames bush for the bad economy kerry for the bad debate. read the trip. you'll see that biden won it. >> i think he was told to get in there, make some commotion because he had ground to make up for. that's just a fact. i think if you're looking for the vice president to try to save the day, there's a problem. >> if obama has a performance like he ha

is making a big statement out of nothing. one statement said, four years ago, the candidate obama said the following if you don't have a record to run on, you paint your opponent as somebody people should run away from. it goes on to say with nothing to run on, barack obama has become the type of candidate he once decried. our conservatives say the president is seeming small running on some of these things. >> yeah, and the other sound there, we showed the vice president, he is very quick on his feet. the baby started to cry. he used it in his speech. >> going after the baby vote, don, thank you very much, we appreciate it. >> you know it is not just the candidates talking, there are also newspapers making their picks. "the denver post" throwing their weight around president obama. writing, he is a steady leader who keeps the voters in mind." the comments on 47% of americans who refuse to take personal responsibility and care for their lives were a telling insight into his views and a low point of the campaign. another interesting endorsement for the president. this is unusual, since m

. >> oh, boy. here we go. oh, man. >> four years ago, president obama made a promise -- >> [ laughter ] >> that he would bring down unemployment below 6%. >> oh, this guy. >> joining us now for our own debate of sorts, republican governor bob mcdonnell. he is the republican governor of virginia, and seen frequently on the campaign trail with mitt romney. the former democratic governor of michigan and now host of current tv's "the war room" jennifer granholm. rounding out the roundtable for the hour, the mayor of atlanta, democrat kasim reed. republican strategist alex castellanos. and nbc news special correspondent tom brokaw, who by the way moderated the town hall style presidential debate between john mccain and barack obama in 2008. so we'll have some perspective of what to expect from that point of view. welcome to all of you. governor mcdonnell, the framing of this is that things are moving in romney's directions. if you look at the polling in the battleground states, there has been a movement toward him after that first debate. what makes you think that is sustainable? >> becaus

opportunities. that's why i'm asking for your vote and asking for another four years. >> president obama, governor romney, thank you for being here tonight. on that note, we have come to an end on this town hall debate. thanks to the participants for their time and the people of hofstra university for their hospitality. the next and final debate takes place monday night in boca raton, florida. election night is three weeks from today. don't forget to vote. [captioning performed by national captioning institute] [captions copyright national cable satellite corp. 2012] >> president obama and mitt romney squaring off in their second presidential debate. we are live in d.c. for round 2 of your thoughts. it will take your phone calls and comments. get your thoughts on the presidential debates. there is a third and final one on monday, october 20 secondary we ask you tonight on our facebook page what you thought about who won tonight's presidential debate. a lot of comments and thoughts. barack obama -- 6091 people think president obama won the debate in about 6400 people think governor romney

the next four years. and now you're about to hear who stretched the truth, and what president obama and mitt romney are saying on the campaign trail today. but first i want you to just hear instant reaction, instant analysis, moments after the debate ended. here is wolf blitzer. >> i think it is fair to say that this debate the president came out and did what he failed to do in his first debate, set the stage for debate number three. anderson? >> i think democrats are going to be a lot happier with his performance in this debate than the first presidential debate. let's get a reading. david, what did you think? >> most improved. that award goes to barack obama. he had a much, much stronger debate tonight. you can read social media, there are lots of people out there, democrats all fired up. but i must tell you, i think that mitt romney has had two very good debates back to back. i think he had a solid performance tonight and i think overall he looked much more like he could be president than he did two weeks ago. but i think overall, i kind of score it by the questions and everybody

expectations about your speaking skills. and biden's been doing that for four years. [ laughter ] plus he's gonna win. because the liberal media fix is in. >> critics raising concerns about the moderator in tomorrow's vice-presidential clear political bias. it turns out president obama attended abc correspondent martha raddatz first wedding back in 1991. this thing goes deep, folks. [ laughter ] 21 years ago barack obama attended debate moderator. martha raddatz's wedding. who knows what favors were exchanged with an eye toward the inevitable future debate. they all knew it was coming. he knew that. panini press would pay off eventually for the running mate he hadn't met yet. [ laughter ] >> stephen: for twenty years, every time she's made a monte cristo she's whispered "i owe you, barack obama." [ laughter ] and sure, obama was actually just a law school classmate of raddatz's husband julius genachowski who raddatz divorced in 1997. but what woman doesn't love doing favors for her ex-husband's friends? [ laughter ] so clearly the debate -- the whole thing is meaningless until ryan wins.

years the same. >> did you think obama performed well, yes or no? >> no. >> what's the issue? >> i think rather than defend his own record he attacked, attacked, attacked, and that's no way to win the presidency. >> it is meed yolker. what i said earlier, undecided. i was not undecided between obama and romney. i was undecided and quite a number of people i no i are in that category of the i was extremely favor whree -- favorably impressed. >> with mitt romney? >> yes i heard what i wanted to hear. i heard you are going to take away taxes. >> i want to know one thing. how did ruth gator beginsburg get into the room? >> we as americans don't have to settle for what we have been going through. >> >> he missed it. he didn't answer the question. >> he was on the defense all nightlong. >> and we only got one question on libya of the he was on the defense about that. >> he lied about everything. he lied to get elected in 2008. that's why i voted for him. i bought it. and he lied about everything. he has continue come through on anything. >> i want to defend barack obama. >> he supports women's

budget deficit in 2012. just over a trillion dollars. and here's what it was last year. president obama actually cut the deficit by more than $200 billion from the year before. here's the budget deficit that president obama was handed when he walked in the door. your eyes are not deceiving you. you hear the republicans talk about how president obama increased the deficit? he cut the deficit during the four years in office. this graph was put together going through the data. and over the last four decades, only two presidents have reduced the deficit that much this quickly. and those presidents are bill clinton and barack obama. both democrats. the democratic party has actually been the better of the two parties when it comes to the deficit. over the last 40 years, it's democratic presidents who have been the most fiscally responsible when it comes to the deficit. and republican presidents have been the most fiscally wrereckl. somehow republicans have successfully cultivated this myth that they are the ones they should trust if you're worried about the debt and the deficit. even though v

hidden the expansion of al qaeda in the year since president obama has taken off. >>neil: i always wonder and you follow this more closely than i would, we see some of the idiot whose pop up, like this guy, probably not a wise my if you trying to be undercover to announce you want to start a jihads probably not the sharpest but i think of the underwear bomber, the shoe bomber, they are not mensa candidates. but there are people like a mohammed atta who are planning with more deadly accuracy. i wonder if these guys are a deflection. >>guest: i am not sure if they are deflection or 30's -- law enforcement wanting to show they are earning their money. >>neil: what if the f.b.i. did not cooperate or have an undercover agent with this guy? would he have found another guy? would he have succeeded? was it a good thing the file tie did what difficulty? >>guest: well, it is a good thing they did what they did but it clouds the issue. the real issue for the united states is to put a world map up from 2001 and one for 2012 and the expansion, the gentleman graphic california reach and the numbers of

that president obama would side -- would sign an extension of the current rate for another year in my opinion is no more likely true that untrue. >> we do not want to raise taxes. but as pete pointed out, the issue is to extend a tax cut or not. for some americans. in order to meet our obligations and make sure we can reduce the deficit. that is something we want to do. we do believe that, in fact, raising taxes on millionaires -- start care if you want -- -- start their if you want -- would increase in comes and not hurt the economy at all. and going from 39% to 35% -- from 35% to 39% will not hurt the economy. that is what the president has proposed. it seems a reasonable way to go. it did not work under the bush years. let's do what we have already agreed upon, which is to extend the middle-class tax cut. we do not believe in the trickle-down economics. it has not worked. we do believe in making money, though. we are perfectly happy with the fact that we want to encourage more americans to be successful and the prosperous, and then pay taxes into what we do jointly. that is the difference.

. >> there is president obama trying to catch up today, four years ago saying will he be ready? there governor, good to see you. >> we've been below average every month. we're at 1.two states in the south and are showing. >> we'll check in with a liberal side as we check in with juan williams we're live in the spin room for the post debate analysis, straight ahead. i'm a conservative investor. i invest in what i know. i turned 65 last week. i'm getting married. planning a life. there are risks, sure. but, there's no reward without it. i want to be prepared for the long haul. i see a world bursting with opportunities. india, china, brazil, ishares, small-caps, large-caps, ishares. industrials. low cost. every dollar counts. ishares. income. dividends. bonds. i like bonds. ishares. commodities. diversification. choices. my own ideas. ishares. i want to use the same stuff the big guys use. ishares. 8 out of 10 large, professional investors choose ishares for their etfs. introducing the ishares core, etfs for the heart of your portfolio. tax efficient and low cost building blocks to help you keep more o

after 9:00 a.m. eastern we will see a spirited defense by barack obama of his four-year record or we won't. if we see it, this election campaign will take a strong new life. if we don't, something historic will begin to die. obama has much to say in his defense. he inherited the economic carnage of a recent republican president, a catastrophic loss of jobs, a collapse in the u.s. stock market, the death rattle of the auto industry. he, barack obama, then brought a financial and economic collapse back from the brink, changed the course of the economy from job destruction to job creation, doubled the american stock market, saved the auto industry. he did it all with a dramatic change of policy, a stimulus program that varied 180 degrees from the austerity measures that have humbled europe. an intervention into the auto industry that reinvigorated an industry that means pride to americans. obama needs to make this defense, he needs to underline the fact that his opponent and his party fought him every inch of the way. on the stimulus, on the auto industry, on health care, on equal pay for w

't afford four more years of barack obama. >> reporter: in florida, vice president joe biden says the obama administration deserves another four years. >> america's not in decline. america's is coming back! and we're not going back. >> reporter: as biden listed the ways he thinks romney's policies will hurt americans, a baby in the audience started crying. [ laughter ] >> i don't blame that baby for crying. that baby knows what's in store for him or her if romney wins. >> reporter: with biden seeking votes, the president is at camp david cramming for monday's debate where foreign policy will dominate. drew levinson, cbs news. >> you can watch the final presidential debate live on monday right here on cbs 5 starting at 6:00. the topic will be foreign policy. >>> six bank tellers broke out in hives after a customer deposited money wrapped inside a paper towel. it happened at a chase bank in modesto yesterday afternoon. the employees immediately felt itchy and had trouble breathing. they were rinsed down by emergency workers and taken to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. meanwhile, t

in sales. i have 12,000 employees. we were growing 20% to year. ere four years later under the obama administration we are doing half the amount of sales of we were doing. we had to cut our force from 12,000 to 5,000, and we are growing 0% a year verses that 20 percent before. i have lived through this last four years. i can be a monday morning quarterback and predict what the next four years under president obama will be like to my and i wanted to tell my employees exactly what to expect if, in fact, they re-elect president obama. lou: there is nothing academic about an election, as of politicians sm to be confidence and insistence upon saying, if they win the elections, elections have consequences, but those elections have brought consequences that are t often discussed in the business community. markey will come a billionaire in his own right said he treated this, suggestin how your employees should vote is exactly to create problems among workers and to reduce productivity. you know, you weren't telling your employees at all how to work, but what is your reaction -- how to vote.

've made over the six years you've been running for president, here is the good news. obama care covers pre-existing conditions! we can fix you up! we got a cure! >> we've got a big fight coming up later in the show about women and this whole thing and you two guys are going to talk about it as distant people here, males, but is that going to be an issue here now because i saw those younger women there. i saw cecile richards introduced him in northern virginia today. my question is without a gender gap, can a democrat win? >> no. no chance. no chance. they have to. >> because if the issue is health, education, it's women's rights, the whole plethora of issues. >> that's why when you see the race this close and then you'll see some polls that will be a two or three-point race but there's no gender gap you're like throw that poll out. there's a gender gap in american politics. >> kathleen turner and tough hom rays in a minute not just you guys but my question is how can one guy one night, he walks in, very impressive, even pushy. he is. he's a bully. and yet he seemed to impress a lot of wome

. i will on day one put a halt to all the regulations that were put in during the obama years. >> mitt is going to keep those promises i know because i have his day one schedule right here. 8:00 a.m. to noon, inauguration. 12:30, appoint cabinet. 1:00, take photo for white house i.d. card. 1:07, retake photo. 1:45, repeal obama care. 4:00, pick nuclear launch codes, maybe zip code plus ann's birthday, question mark? >> back to "hardball." first to last night's al smith dinner up in new york. as you can see, i was up on the dais at the big event seated right behind president obama and mitt romney. here is the view i had from my seat. i have to say, thanks to tom moran and his global food program concern for taking this great photo right in front of us there. in his own joke-laden speech, the president made a specific apology regarding his performance in the first debate. >> i particularly want to apologize to chris matthews. four years ago i gave him a thrill up his leg. this time around i gave him a stroke. >> a better shot of me sitting right over there. that was something. now to mor

. that's why i'm asking for your vote and asking for another four years. >> president obama, governor romney, thank you for being here tonight. on that note, we've come to an end on this town hall debate. our thanks to the participants for their team and the people of hofstra university for their hospitality. the next and final debate takes place monday toda monday night a raton, florida. don't forget to watch. election day is three freaks thm today. don't footing vote. footinforget to vote. >> an extraordinary 90 minutes, literally getting into each other' faces, spaces. we've been promised by the obama campaign that we would see a more aggressive president obama, and indeed we did tonight. both men fighting for the last word, interrupting each other on virtually every question, fighting with the moderator at various times. the questions, 11 questions asked in all, and some of which will be certainly discussed tomorrow, topics we haven't heard much about at all in this presidential campaign. equal pay for women. in fact, there were a lot of women -- >> ak-47s. >> -- abortion, contrac

these people who all year looking for an excuse to re-elect obama? they liked him personally and thought he came in under tough circumstances and wanted to give him more time and just so disheartened by the performance in denver? i think they got reassurance and they'll like obama. were they looking for an excuse to vote out obama and mitt romney wasn't giving them that excuse. they just didn't feel comfortable enough? if that's the kiss and romney gave them a comfort level in the first debate, i don't think he won last night and probably competent enough a performance to keep the vote earls in the fold for him. >> interesting to see how the polls shift based on this debate. what i thought looking at that clip from libya, you're the president's best line of the night, please proceed, governor. the president was everything he wasn't in the first debate, governor romney with a number of unforced errors, including he brought up let detroit go bankrupt first. he gave the opening for 47% at the very end of the debate when he didn't have a chance to respond. and he also sort of strangely attacked

, it was a use it or lose it i guess. during last 3 fiscal years with president bush, compared to president obama, with bush, there were over in 9600 new leases. 9600 leases. granded for federal land. with president obama, this is bush, this is obama. with president obama, three most recent fiscal years there have been only 5500 leases. 5500 leases. that works out to a decline of 42%. governor overstated a bit. by 8%. not a half, just 42% decline. let's look at drilling permits for comparable period, over 20,000, permits under president bush, under president obama, there are 13,000. that is a 37% decline. and not quite 50%, but dramatic and stunning nonetheless. on oil production. romney said production of oil on government land down 14%. down 14%. the president claims it is up, according to energy information, data. governor romney vita is right a. a 14% decline of oil from federal land in two previous years production had been higher. production rose overall during those two years by almost 11%. governor romney is right about what he said, he said in last year. -nd what about gas production? it

been softer for obama all year took notice. simply because obama's performance was obviously less than stellar. he didn't really display empathy or connection with women over their economic situation which is quite different than men's economic situation or for that matter, talking about the other issues you've been talking about with nancy. i'm not that surprised. the gallup poll is definitely an outlier. there is a lively conversation about the problems of the gallup poll. most of the national polls have it tied with obama or romney up one. in most of the national polls that i've seen, including a ppp poll that came out today had women at about 51%. gender gap is not the margin of women voting for obama. it is difference in men and women and there still is a gender gap. sometimes it is a little smaller, sometimes a little bigger but women are always more democrat leaning than men are. that will be true in this vote as well. >> eliot: steve, let me turn to you. the disappearance of what had been an 18% marge and

that, because this is the same paper that endorsed barack obama four years ago, and for mitt romney to take that away from the president is important. a clip from the editorial i can read to you. we have little confidence that obama would be more successful managing the economy and the budget for the next four years and for that reason, we endorsed him in 2008. we're recommending romney in this race. that is a pretty significant development in this race, because that central part of florida, wolf, as you have been saying, we've all been saying for months now, very key to the outcome of the state of florida. now, having said all of that, as flora just mentioned a few moments ago, the president is on safe ground in wisconsin, iowa, and two other battleground states. >> we'll see how safe that ground is a lot could change. a big debate coming up monday night as all of us know and heading out on the campaign trail from new york. tomorrow, all practicing getting ready for the debate. tomorrow night, the very latest on the presidential election, right here on piers morgan tonight. piers w
