some of these were really good...others
I can remember seeing the one about the floor wax with the people gliding across the floor when I was a little kid. The one's that I couldn't stand was the "Sloppy Joe"dance one,wow talk about stupid,Also, the "Simonize wax"one, because IMO that curly joe guy was NEVER a Stooge!!!!,and even though I'm a smoker,I don't want kids getting the ideal that smoking's a cool thing, because it isn't.
I really loved seeing Buster Keaton in the beer commercial,he's so awesome! Also,I love the "Rice Krispie"one,it's so upbeat and fun!
Speaking of fun, most of these were really fun to watch,so thanks to the person who posted them!

So much better than today's
The old commercials were so much better than the dreck they have on TV today. American TV, at least.
These old commercials make the product interesting -- even if it's something simple like floor wax or aspirin; today's commercials make me to NEVER WANT TO BUY THE PRODUCT because they're so stupid.
Case in point: Wendy's ads. I used to eat at Wendy's sometimes (I very rarely eat fast food), but these days, their ads are so stupid that I NEVER go there anymore.

COPE aspiring
Tenor madman, it appears that COPE is still around, and was/is a combo of aspirin and caffeine...just like Anacin.
Don't see how a jolt of caffeine would be a "gentle relaxer", though.

Please Help
Are we absolutely sure that these are in the public domain? Great commercials just loved them. But I really need to know if they are in the public domain????? onestop.retro@yahoo.com
With special attention to the Chesterfield ciggarette ad.

These were really great! None of them I had seen before. best one was for the COPE Asprin / tranquilizer combo. That poor Woman! The glo floor wax, Halo Shampoo, the shampoo creme, Groucho Marx, I mean it goes on and on! Really enjoyed these!

"Gentle Relaxer"?
I would love to know what it was in the Cope asprin for women that they called a "gentle relaxer". It could have been a lot of things...??
This is very curious!

Update:
The actor in the aspirin commercial is Ed Lauter, born in 1940. He usually plays a bad guy in movies and television. Bald, tall, leering, long-jawed, villainous-looking American actor. A former English graduate and stand-up comic, he came to films in his early thirties. Became one of the familiar character faces in the 1970's and beyond. He is still acting.

Very mixed bag
Some terrible aspirin commercials, a so-common-it's-dull DeSoto commercial (I must have 2 dozens copies of it on DVD), A Commercial for Cigarettes featuring characters from the unpopular 60's sitcom "The Flintstones" (Which, BTW, Was Aimed at adults during it's first two seasons), A Groovy "Sloppy Joe" commercial, plus plenty of other commercials of varying quality make this a mixed bag. Not as good as some of the Classic Television Commercials Rick Prelinger has, But certainly better than most commercials on TV today.
Highlight: A "Grape Nuts" commercial with the cast of "The Andy Griffith Show", a VERY popular 60's sitcom.

The Maple Leaf Forever
Didn't you Americans already "burn people"? As in Salem, Massachussetts? Naplm comes to mind as well. Then again, I guess those were more "un-progressive era(s)". All kidding aside...
Neat little snippets of Americana! The tobacco industry fueled the media until the mid sixties...
Check out the price per gallon on the Texaco commercial. Loved all the '65 Chevies in the Rai-Tan Cigar commercial. And isn't that Kevin Dobson in the Aspirin commercial?
